ok, like the tread says, is the 1.7 a direct swap for the 1.4?? I'm thinking of the wiering, and ecu. I know the lump and gearbox are a direct swap.

I may be getting a new puma in a few weeks, (still undecided) it's a 99 00 1.4, it's suposedly mint, so it's a better starting point for my frp convercion :) so I'm thinking, kick the 1.4 to the curb, and slipp my 1.7 inn, after it's gotten a nice workover :)

but again, is the wiering the same?? ie. the vct??

thnx for any ansvers :)

if all else fails, I do have a complet working donor car, so swapping everithing is not an issue, just a hassle :)

I bought a Puma just over a year ago and whilst the log book stated a 1.4, it was advertised as a 1.7. I wrote to the DVLA and they confirmed in writing that a previous owner had seized the engine (the 1.4) and replaced it with a 1.7, so it can be done, but I can't advise you further than that, except to say it runs beautifully. Good luck. Posted Image

Nice bit of progress, if you have both cars together, even better. You won't be short of parts.

my first fiesta was a 1.4 and changed to 1.7. It is quite easy. You need to get the matching loom so digital clocks need digital loom and ecu and key chip, that's it. then you just replace the engine by side of the loom so that's easy.

thx, but it's alomst the same the 1.4 doesn't have ABS my 1.7 has so it's a little more work, but i've got all parts together
now stripping my old car , remove the engine and change cambelt, clutch before fitting it into my new Puma

My puma is 1.4 and i am thinking to swap with 1.7 in the near future. Having read several posts that upgrade seems the more easy thing to do for an 1.4 upgrade. Is the above statement definite that the swap is only about" get the matching loom so digital clocks need digital loom and ecu and key chip, that's it. then you just replace the engine by side of the loom so that's easy.";

Loom and ECU to match your current fuse box (green / white or green / white / black plugs)

Left side engine mount

Air box lid

MAF mass air flow sensor
