Heater Control Valve Again!

Hi All,

Just wanted to get an idea of generally how often these valves fail?

Starting to get my nerves now. I bought the car and it had a failed control valve, I replaced it and it lasted 4 months. Now I have replaced that one and this one has lasted two months (Which I am taking back today again)

Please note this is the latest model Ford made the 7N21 model. I have done all the checks etc, first thing I did yesterday was pull out the connector on the valve and put a side bulb into it and set the heat to mid range. The bulb flickered as it should to simulate the valve being pushed in and out. Turned it to full heat and the bulb went off (default setting is always open letting water in so no power being sent to the valve) Then I turned it to cold and the bulb stayed on meaning the valve is shut off and electrical current going through it.

I am starting to put this through my mind, is it that I am just having bad luck with the valves? Or is there something else maybe. It seems to me that the control unit is sending the correct signals to the valve. The only problem I see is the connector I have held it on to make sure it is making a secure connection and the valve stuck on full heat still. The connector seems weird to me, it looks like it is miles off the connecting rod of the valve. But it must be right as the clip secures it all in place (as it should)

Please let me know if anyone has been as unlucky as this.

Thanks,
Chris

I'd flush out the coolant and make sure you use pure de-ionised water when mixing up the next batch...

Using tap water can cause a lot of scaling issues..and the little plunger in that heater valve to just stick etc...

must be down to the quality of the coolant I would presume.... New ones from Ford should be good for 5years + usually...

Also, from my experience (for what its worth), non genuine units are crap and fail very quickly.

My girlfriends streetka - heater was broken when we bought the car so bought a £15-£20 item from ebay - worked for 2 weeks then went. Bought another, same thing.

Bought a genuine Ford one, and has worked perfect ever since. :)
