I have taken the inserts out on Both but would like to renew the whole badge. Does anyone know how they're held on and are they flat behind? In other words dont have prongs into the bodywork in particular the rear one?

Cheers Steve. So in theory,You could take the rear one off and have a clean line without any need for filling or spraying?

Pretty sure they are flush fit on the rear, you will of course need to clean off the sticky residue, and give it a buff up.
EDIT: but deffo no prongs, and I'm sure Ford stopped the slight recess that they used in the past.

Apply heat from a hairdryer and pull off by hand.
There is an oval shaped depression in the rear hatch when the badge is removed.

I knew you'd be the man to know Colin tongue.gif Anyone got a picture of the rear one removed and filled? Does it take much skill to fill the rear recess? I'm an expert with walls and polifiller which isn't that different a job I presume?

I've been thinking today.

I have a spare 'Puma' side pillar badge, wondering about replacing the boots' 'Ford' badge with that....

Hmm, could be good!

It does need filling as there is a recess below the badge or at least there was on mine

I'd be a little wary of filling it, as the boot takes an impact when you close it - it'd be mighty vexing to have your carefully applied filler popping out...

As long as the surface is suitably keyed and a non-shrinking filler is used it should be OK. You could even make a small filler panel using aluminium mesh and 'soak it' in filler then pop it in the depression. Nothing worse than a poor filler job. They you have to blend it with the surrounding bodywork and respray the entire boot edge all the way across.

Personally I prefer a badge there as without it, it looks like a face with the nose missing (same goes for the front)...but each to their own ph34r.gif

I'm trying to put my finger on it but I think the badge marks a reference point for the centre of the curvature of the rear panel and without it I think it makes the back of the car look a bit flat and less curvy. As with the front lights the shape of the rear lights draws your eye towards the area between them yet there is nothing there...your eye ends up drawn to the rear number plate instead (not a styling feature but a federal one).

But each to their own... ph34r.gif

If you haven't already done the work to remove the badges, you might wanna read this:

http://www.pumapeople.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=13734

It goes into great detail how to get the badges off...
