According to the technical data on the Parkers website the Puma Millenium does 0-60 in 8.8 seconds, whereas the normal 1.7 does it in 9.2. Does this sound right, and if so why is it faster?

Shouldnt think so unless Yellow is more aerodynamic!! biggrin.gif

Maybe even slower because of the leather interior weighing more than cloth??

I think one of them should come to the Nurburgring in July and prove it :-)

perhaps its because the thunder, black and normal 1.7 16v were produced until 2001-2002
wereas the millenium edition was just made 99-2000

this means that parkers may be using a later 0-60 figure for the non-milly 1.7s, and as the torque limiter was upped the later on that pumas were made, the 0-60 went down.

so earlier pumas had a better 0-60, later pumas a slower 0-60 with more torque limiting.

might explain it?

I think they are wrong......the figure of 9.? is not correct for a 1.7. Maybe a later model or something.
Besides, the figure I read of 8.7 is wrong as well........
It's actually around 8.4, but don't tell anyone, otherwise our insurance will go up!

it's is correct really.
The earlier Puma was marginally faster, the Milly is based on a earlier Puma.
the later Puma was slower as the torque limiter was raised affecting the time a wee bit.
Also the way the 0-60 was quoted changed. Origianlly it was 0-60 then to be eu compliant so to speak it became 0-62 as it was a KMPH adjusted figure hence it wnet up to 9.2 as well.

Mine's slow as it's had the latest ECU map loaded with the pessimistic torque limiter settings. Fatter midrange pull though.

Would the gauntlet still stand when the Milly's packing a 250BHP supercharged K20 tongue.gif

Ha, I always remembered the 0-62mph as being a fart under 8 seconds! I looked it up years ago before I bought my 2001 puma (brand new) and it has steadily become quicker and quicker in my mind (especially when I give stats to anyone who'll listen). It started off being 7.7 seconds, then I dropped it to 7.5 and until I read this page I was saying 7 seconds. 8.8 is ridiculously slow though. I can't tell you how dissapointing it was to read the above posts and discover that I must have been reading the spec of the FRP (and then exaggerating that)!

I just changed the nearside headlight and thought it was such a polava that I should probably change car, after finding that my car is actually a few seconds slower 0-60 than I had previously believed I am almost certainly going to do it. I should be able to trade up to a nice Y-reg Impreza. Hmm, something to think about.

How is the headlight difficult? I can take both off the car, take them apart completely, rebuild them and get them back in and working in less than 20 minutes.

Then again, I can't get the sodding spare wheel out so I can't talk!

Let me guess.. you tried to use the plastic screwdriver-lookalike-thing on the jack to lower the spare wheel cage? rolleyes.gif

They should mount a small camera in the boot that activates when you try to get the spare out. Would make awesome television. Shame i'd be on it as well though ...

Nope, the problem is the last person that removed it (a garage) did it up with an air gun. Yeh, ----ing great idea if I get stuck with a flat!
