Hi
Can anyone tell me how to remove the power steering pipe ( from the rack to the pump) as it seems the two unions on the pump are too close together to get a spanner on them

Don't remember 100% but i belive they are held on by a bracket, witch is locked to the rack by one smal bolt :)

I assume you have an air con car and rear mounted pump?

The pipe on the pump needs a short 18mm open or brake spanner which you then need to get a scaffold bar or similar on to the end of from the side of the car.

Helps if the engine is out of the way but that's a fairly big job to do it safely.

The other pipe to the pump is a rubber hose with a spring clamp, remove that first.

The nut on the pump is a NIGHTMARE to undo if it's never been off before... pretty sure it was thread locked on the assembly line and secured very tight...

Ideally get some heat on it then turn it...as you've found out, there's very little room to get anything secure on it.. :head:

once it's been off, you can fairly easily use a mini 18mm spanner :)

Cheers for the info. I am going to try and cut the hoses and connect a new set does anyone know how successful this may be? Any thoughts on the best way to connect the hoses?

In the garage they drop the subframe then you also pay for an alignment but is def the easiest way. I ended up making a 'custom' 18mm spanner when I first done mine lol alot of swearing with clearance issues though....
