in my experience the only time I've noticed the 'time-to-change-pads' was on old work Audi ... when they got so low it was more a grating sound which signalled the end of pads and new discs as well (metal on metal grinding!!)

The only squeeking i've ever known from brakes when (again on work Audi, after above was sorted) the discs became warped.

Sorry, not much use am I. Someone give 'Brotha_Lynch_Hung' some good news ... :?: :?:

Mine were squeeling on slow down, but as they were only fitted just prior to buying car (both pads and discs) I knew it wasn't wear.

Car went in for minor service, told mechanic about brakes, smothered back plate of pads in what looks like 'copperslip'...

No more squeeling...

Brotha_Lynch_Hung have an FRP now ?

If so it sounds like you need the brakes cleaned and overhauled, there has been a few treads on the site regarding this subject.

Its a long way for you to travel but Alan at PUMABUILD provides a complete overhaul for the Alcon calipers. Also does a re-painting service on them as well.
Now HiD ready. Are you ready for the switch over?

Reflection is nothing without depth.

My brakes squeal a little too, mostly coming to a stop at slow speeds. This is after having a full caliper service about 2k miles ago so i know they are not worn.

I think it is just a common problem with the FRP brakes, some squeal more than others. I had brake hum b4 my caliper service, now that was bad, so I can easily live with a bit of squealing

since pad change and caliper service (though not at thorough as if I had taken it to Pumabuild I suspect) have squeal but only at very very slow speed, like 1mph.

Brakes that sqeal when slowing down or during slow manoevering seems to be the norm.

Brakes that humm when driving along may require a caliper re-build.

It's time to change the pads when they are worn out!

Well,

Im humming when im driving, and squeeking like a deliverance 'piggy' when slowing down...

..from all that you nice folks have said it sounds like my brakes need an overhaul and maybe a caliper service? With Pbuild and Pspeed being a lil too far for me to get to at the moment, what can i do? Have ford check it out? Or try and find someone local with a good reputation i guess? :|

Just had my squeaky brakes sorted by PumaSpeed. Nice gold pads and no squeaks. This is the first car I've had that stops SCARILY quickly!!! Gotta be worth the drive down from Glasgow- you have a Puma after all cool2.gif

Can do. Got some long drives to do over the next couple of weeks so they'll get a good test, though I have to point out that I am not a heavy braker!

As for the compound, I have no idea. That would be a question for Tony.
