I'm planning to fit polybushes soon so am trying to ascertain whether my wishbones are original Ford or not. The passenger side has a small Ford logo stamped underneath so that sounds OK but drivers side doesn't although it looks identical and has a similar amount of rust, ie. been on the car for yonks and possibly original since my has only done 32K.

Anyway, I thought I'd take the drivers side wishbone off for a closer look and to do some measurement but couldn't work out how to remove the bolt for the rear bush. I undid the nut underneath and tapped the bolt upwards a little but it will only up so far before it hits the chassis above it so I'm stumped.

I'm sure it's simple so feel free to take the pee as I try hard but I'm a pretty crap mechanic.

IIRC, the nut is normally at the top.
If both your wishbone bolts are the same way, it looks as though the arms have been assembled before fitting the sub-frame.
I would replace the nut on the bolt, then cut off the bolt head and remove from underneath. Buy a new nut/bolt and fit in reversed position.

The Haynes Fiesta Manual (3397) can answer a lot of your questions.

Thanks Rick, thought I was going mad having a problem with something simple like that, hopefully it means I have the original arms though as I'd have thought it could only have left the factory like that. I'll check the other side later anyway just in case it's different.

It might be worth me lowering the subframe if there's not too many bolts involved but that's a job for another day.

Just checked the other side and that's the same, these jobs are never as easy as you think they're going to be are they.

I now have 2 complete sets of used Ford OEM Wishbones available for re-bushing as my Puma is currently having complete replacement Ford wishbone assemblies. I would be happy to sell for a few beer tokens but carriage costs might be prohibitive.

I ended up hacksawing the bolts out which was quite easy and replacements from Ford where only £3 each. Thanks to Nick for some Ford wishbones, it turns out mine are Ford anyway but yours were really useful as I could prepare them with Powerflex front bushes before putting on the car.

Anyway, after weeks of faffing about extracting my wishbones from the car (blasted pinch bolts and ball joints) I now have the front bushes installed. The difference in the drive is minimal unfortunately which puts me off replacing the rear bushes as that's a lot more costly and no way can I remove the old ones myself (I have tried).

Does anyone know if the rear bushes have anymore effect on handling as I feel tempted to leave well alone now?
