My wife has just rung me.

The car was losked last night via the remote. This morning the car wasn't responding to the remote. She opened the car on the key and the horn stared sounding and the hazards flashed BUT it would start and drive. She says that after a minute or so the alarm stops sounding and the hazards go off. If she opens a door the alarm starts sounding again for the minute and then stops but all the time the car is drivable..

The red light by the clock on the dash is flashing constantly.

Any ideas?

tryed unlocking from the pasenger door?? I see my alarm arms sometimes from the driverdoor, and almost always from the pasenger door, think there is a micro switch in the lock somwhere that sticks, and fusses upp :)

Spot on, she locked and unlocked the car from the passenger door and problem solved.

Guess there must be a switch in each of the door locks to disarm the alarm when the door unlocks and the key fob AND the switch on the driver's door lock have both packed up.

 superb :)always good news when a problem can be solved :)

edit: may also be the reason why the keyfob doesnt work as wel, if the car thinks it's in the proses of locking, and ignoring the remote :)

I have started having a problem with my alarm, it is just going off randomly whenever it feels like. Probably for about 10 seconds usually about 10 to 30 mins after i get out. Its not such a big deal except when im on lates and the neighbours are complaining. any ideas?

I have started to have same problem as OP unlocked by passenger side and now alarm is going nuts everytime i start the car. So i should just lock/unlock all the doors a few times? opening the bonnet also set it off.

There is a test in the Wiki to do to find out if all the alarm sensor points are OK, this might indicate which opening has a fault that is tripping the alarm off.

found the test but I have no idea what the alarm pins are that I need to depress. Ive noticed the far left brass thing on the bottom inside of the boot that those 4 springry prongs push onto is now springy itself, are they always like that the other 3 are in solid?

The easiest one to get to is the bonnet switch, just press on it several times. The others are in the doors so you will have to open and close one of the doors repeatedly within the given timeframe. Those switches near the door hinges are just for the door-ajar-light in the instrument cluster, the interior lamp and the lights-on-warning-beep.

I made a quick photo of the switch. It is on the crossmember in the centre, right above the bonnet catch.

Security system self-diagnostics
If your 'door open' light comes on for no apparent reason or your alarm keeps sounding for no apparent reason, you may have a faulty pin-switch in one of the doors, the boot, or the bonnet. The alarm self-diagnostic can be selected by depressing any alarm pin-switch 6 times in quick succession. Once this is done the alarm will bleep (honk) once. Opening the boot, doors or bonnet will sound the horn once if that detector is okay and twice if there's a fault with it. If nothing is opened or closed for twenty seconds the security system will quit diagnostic mode and return to normal.

I did this a few months ago and it worked, now when I do it the first press sets the alarm off.

It sets the alarm off even while unlocked? So the central locking module must somehow "think" the car is in locked state and therefore the alarm is still armed. Depending on the model year you could try and disconnect the plugs from either the central locking module (for older models with two-button remotes) or the GEM (for newer models with three-button remotes). Wait a while and reconnect, this should usually reset the state the respective module is in to an unlocked state. Then try doing the self-diagnostics again. That should the help you pinpoint the place to look for possibly a faulty wire or unwanted ground connection.

I think the issue is the passenger door.

I have taken the fuse out for the central locking, and the alarm only goes off now if the passenger door is opened. Fortunately without the fuse the alarm only lasts till all doors are shut and the annoying 10 minutes of hazard lights aren't going off.

Hi all

I am near on pulling my hair out - im hoping someone can help me

Recently my alarm went off if i opened the doors, despite reading all the forum posts it still hasnt fixed the issue

what i have done so far

disconnected the horn (embarrasing when u are ina supermarket carpark), so i now have the annoying 5 minute wait till my hazards turn off and i can drive without them flashing. I have even disconnected the bonnet switch as that seemed loose and bridged it to show its closed ( so im guessing the issue is now with the doors - odly the boot when opened doesnt sound the alarm (or hazards dont flash) lol

how can i stop the hazards flashing

is there a way to disconnect them so im not sitting around like an idiot awaiting them to cease flashing

any ideas anyone - i only ever had 1 key (not the fob) so door is always locked and unlocked by key

i have tried locking and unlocking using all doors

but nothing turns the hazards off till it reaches the 5 min marker

anyhelp would be appreciated here

PC

I found the issue was that the lock wasn't locking the door properly as the key was loose in its housing and a new key solved the problem. I don't think there is any way to get rid of the hazards flashing, it is very annoying.

Just picked up a 98 model with all these problems! Not tried anything yet as she is going in for a bit of welding, the alarm sounds when the drivers door is unlocked (remote does not work )and when the ignition is switched on, after 2 or 3 turns in the lock it goes quiet. I will try the passenger side and see what happens. I have 2 keys, ford suggested I would need a new red key made and sort from there?
I currently have 2 button key.
Thanks for any advice.
Matt

You can program your own new key if the two you have both open and start the car. Hope you can sort your alarm issues.
