Well last week I got dumped by text message and was to be frank angry and very pi$$ed off with what i thought was a low and cowardly act showing absolutely no respect or care for my feelings.

Someone else suggested to me that these days its pretty common and is not meant to hurt your feelings (yeah right!) just be a quick painless way of doing it with no arguements and no room for negotiation.

So whats your opinions??? Is it a cowardly thing or do i just need to catch up with the modern times??

Yes or No options with "in some circumstances" would have sufficed Warren? ohmy.gif

I don't think it would be nice to have happen but if you were afraid of your partner for physical or mental battering then text message would be ideal!

I don't think I have done it but I might have. sleep.gif

It depends on the relationship. If you're in a deep and caring relationship you would expect your partner to show you some respect and speak to you face-to-face, but if it's an exceedingly casual one then why not? Mind you, I'm not exactly a dating expert. Sorry to hear about your experience though Warren.

It was a very intense relationship with absolutely no reason for her to fear a physical or emotional battering!!! Ive never raised my voice to her or threatened her either!!

Sorry to hear this Warren.
She should have had the decency to have told you to your face that she wanted to split up & why. I think it wasn't very considerate or well mannered to do so, so you're better off without her as she's shown her 'true' colours.

myweepuma i could understand that if he was a quite pushy guy who didnt listen especially if raising your voice and screaming "youre dumped" didnt work laugh.gif

I guess email is the modern "dear John" letter.

Sometimes long distance relationships cannot end face to face, although text is certainly the worst of the long distance communication methods - for one thing they are extremely unreliable!

A very short relationship I suppose is OK to end by text.

Ending face to face is more painful to both parties (or can be) but I have always done so as it is instinctually the "right" thing to do. I am not 100% sure this is correct...why is it more respectful? It feels so so I am agreeing with the majority (for once), I am just not sure why and therefore I question it.

respectful maybe because its tradition to deal with difficulties face to face despite how awkward it is with the possible counter comments.

for example dumping by text is only better for the person doing the dumping as theres no consequence as such with all comebacks/replys being easily ignored! Where as for the person being dumped by text has no recourse or way of gettting answers etc, so no balance. In that way face to face is more civil and by that default respectful of the other persons feelings where as text dumping is very selfish.

I guess it is small consolation that you are able to think through that and be strong, while the other party is a numpty sad.gif

sorry Warren, I wasn't meaning to imply that you were violent, just that in cases such as that, texting might be better.

took the easy way out and this is a pretty crap way of dealing with things
I personally hate the mobile phone and what it has done to attention spans and respect

I don't think it is personal just their means of doing something

depending on how much you knew each other she may just have played it toally remotely

Well i thought i knew her very well!! We'd got to the stage where thinking about her moving in with me! Glad she didnt as with her having two children id have been in deep sh*t right now!!

Shes not that much of a technology freak like most young people - eg I'm always fixing her laptop laugh.gif and not that reliant on text like some people. She talks more than texting.

Its almost like shes made a decision even she isnt that happy with or maybe someones pressurising her. She used to have a control freak ex who would control her by withholding child maintenance and spying on her etc. maybe theres other factors she wont tell me!

come up and see me...make me smile

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand - strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming WOO HOO -What a Ride!:D

Definatly better off without them Im sorry to say, dumping someone by text just shows no respect for the other person!

Its happened to me twice and now I know I was better off without both of them.

When it comes to leaving someone its better done in person no matter how long you've been with them

Well predictably shes blocked me on msn and my texts are now undelivered so i guess thats it i wont get any answers out of her.

Strangely some of her friends who were also friends of mine have blocked me as well and are refusing to even talk to me too. Id love to know whats been said.

I put maybe simply because there are 1 or 2 reasons where it'd be a little easier to do so but then again neither of those would have been proper relationships.
Generally I do think it's wrong though, if you've been in an intense relationship then it definately should be done face to face.

Warren, I really wouldn't worry mate, unfortunately I don't think your going to find out, im afraid there's not much I can say to help you but I hope you can move quickly smile.gif
