What is the best way (not too costly) to get data on your mobile phone when travelling to europe does any one have any suggestions please?
I am on PAYG with Vodafone.

But on reflection this is no good for map reading on the go.
So ideally would like data.

Why don't you down load the maps before you go?? I have a nokia, and they suply free maps to the entire world, :) and I can download the maps on my local wifi before I go out.. saves on loading as you go ;)

I know that is one thought is to buy a Nokia phone on Ebay for that very reason that someone suggested to me today.

I have downloaded a free open source maps on my Andoid phone but so far not getting much joy from it and it needs 3Gb SD space which I don't have for all the 3 maps I need.

Vodafone will cost me £2 a day so I think I will stick with that as cheaper then buying a Nokia on Ebay.

I se :) That's to bad they don't offer ofline maps :( but £2 isn't bad, how mutch data trafic is included then??

I have an old barely used Nokia N96 if you change your mind... it's not the fastest phone in the world, but it has 16gb internal memory, and a gps whit accses to offline maps :)

Not sure yet need to work that bit out. Might be 25Mb a day which is plenty.
Thank you for the thought I will see what the Vodafone details are in case there is a catch.

:) grate :) Now that I think about it, I thinke I have a 3200 or whet ever to, it is faster, and has better battery than the n96, but the speeker has a weird sound, :) also has integrated gps. just needs a memory card to download the maps to. :) Just need to figgure out where I put it :) hehe

Let me know If you need it :)

BTW where are you going?? We are going to london 02/06 then on to paris on the 6th or 7th, and on to rome the 9th I think :)

HTC One V, Android... google maps works fairly ok all thru France from from the ferry to Bordeaux and back with data switched off. That said it's purely GPS and navigation/directions is unavailable. 2 quid a day? Bargain.

Just realised how old this thread is...!
