I have just replaced the front top strut mounts / strut insulators and top mount bearings on my frp... i am amazed by the difference this has made and would recommened it to any one as it is pretty easy to do.
its really smoothed out the crashy feeling on the ride and just made the car feel alot nicer. its hard to explain!
The old top mount had compressed quite alot over the last 10 years!
anyway... here is a picture of a new top mount and a old one to show you
Hope this is useful to you all...

I have just ordered two as mine are knocking a bit.
I'm pretty sure they are the culprits.

You can get ford ones or blue print items, in the region of £10 - £25 each i'd imagine!
as for fitting.... you have to remove the strut to do this and you will also need to compress the springs if you are replacing the bearing too.
and yes they are the same as the standard 1.7 1.6 1.4... and all fiestas!

I just had some 17" Wolfrace Katana alloys fitted to my Puma and the mechanic said I needed to replace my top mounts too cos it would trash my new tyres, glad to know its an in-expensive job

The Ford items are currently priced at £20 each... the bearing is around £6...make sure both are changed...
