Right. I've just joined the site and think its great. If you have the patience and inclination I have a few, probably very lame, questions regarding puma brakes.

I have never been into cars in a big way but I love my puma. Needless to say, as I haven't modded a car ever, my knowledge of doing good things to cars is minimal. I am a firefighter though, so as you can imagine my knowledge of doing very bad things to cars is somewhat better.

I have a R reg VCT with the ford f1 wheels. I think the brakes are rubbish. My only real concern with the car.

I have read some of your earlier advice but feel as if I am playing catch-up so really would appreciate some help with the basics.

I live in near Milton Keynes so unfortunatly getting up to B'ham would be a last resort.

I would like much better stopping power. I cant really afford too much £350-500 ish . Is that enough ?

If anyone could suggest parts for me I have a mechanic friend who would fit them , or is it a specialist job ?.

Well I hope you can find the time to share some of your knowledge with me , and I would be in debt of anyone who cares to help.

Richard

hi richard, im in milton keynes too, funny enough i have been thinking about the same mod to the brakes , i have been unable to find anyone in mk to do the larger conversion as cheap as alan farmer can, not had the mod done but will do soon. as it seems worthwhile.....also i would think a headlight bulb upgrade would be on your list too

I have a 98 Puma and have just upgraded my brakes via Alan

£350 will get you

2000 Puma size EBC Groove Discs (250mm)
EBC Green Stuff Pads
2000 Puma front brake callipers

I think to go bigger than 250mm discs you'll need 17" wheels

Here's the comparison

As for the difference - At slow speeds with light braking you probably won't notice any difference but as speed or pedal pressure increase they feel much, much better. There will be a lot less brake fade and no chance of warping the discs either

He is a good scrubber though.

He gave my car a very good wash. Thanks, Rob.

I hope the brakes are as good as the ones Alan,Martin @ Pumabuild (& Rob!) fitted for me. They are getting better each day, but this last minute braking is gonna get me in trouble. Definatley wearth the trip from where ever in the country - they know their stuff, and don't fob you off with bits they are trying to get rid of. All my work will be carried out by Pumabuild from now on.
