Hi all, long time lurker, first time poster.

I bought my first Puma, a low-mileage (35,000) 1.7VCT S-reg last November. It was great from the get-go, but the winter and 10,000 miles have exposed a couple of problems. The first is the classic Puma bulkhead leak, which due to the weather this year makes the car smell like a wet dog! Carpets are removed (stripped down racer look!) to dry out, pending time to fix it. At least with the floor bungs removed, the water flows straight out!

The second problem is more troublesome. Fairly soon after buying it, the ABS light came on. I read the forums about sensors packing up, so didn't worry about it too much. However, now it's MOT time. A couple of weeks ago I had to change the front pads anyway, so took the caliper off and cleaned up the sensor, but this didn't make any difference.I now realise that if it's a sensor problem, the traction control light comes on too. I also checked all the ABS fuses I could find, which all seemed okay. Also, the first time you hit 12mph after starting the car, you should get a click from the ABS as it checks itself. This doesn't happen.

Long and short of it is, I finally went to my local garage, who ran a diagnostic on it. It came back with: Code: C1095 - Fault location: ABS pump motor, circuit malfunction - Probably cause: Wiring, ABS pump motor.
The garage quoted me something like £1300 for a new ABS pump motor, £800 for a new ABS electronics module! That's Ford prices, and they were shocked. At them moment, the car is with them for an auto electrician to diagnose the problem; hopefully it will turn out to be a dodgy connector or something simple like that.
I have read that sometimes the ABS electronics module can suffer from dry joints, leading to errors. Otherwise, I guess I'm down to replacing the ABS system piece-by-piece, though naturally I'll be looking to source substantially cheaper parts!

If anyone has any suggestions about possible causes/fixes for the ABS problem, I'd love to hear them. I'll update the thread if it gets fixed.

Big thanks to Ian G, who I got an ABS pump motor and electronics board from. It has been fitted and works perfectly! In retrospect, I could have taken the dashboard apart and de-soldered the LED from the board, but actually having working ABS, though more expensive, is reassuring. It now has passed the MOT, following replacing the windscreen, which had a big crack up it.

My Puma has been suffering from bad water leaks around the front bulkhead, and the Autoglass bloke who changed the windscreen said that the old, original windscreen was barely bonded, which could have been causing the leaks. He said this is due to the windscreen being bonded to the lacquer used on, particularly, metallic paint, which eventually pulls away from the paint. There hasn't been significant rain since changing the windscreen, so I'm not sure if this has cured the leaks, so I haven't put the carpet back in the car yet. But it will be nice when I eventually get the opportunity!

Taking the led out will also fail the mot, if the abs system is fitted the light must illuminate and go out correctly

Hi, I was a poster on these boards a few years ago when I had an excellent Thunder edition which I loved very much. I passed it on to my Father-in-law 3 years ago who is also smitten with it but it has now developed the fault described above in an early MOT check as the MOT is up on the 1st June.

I'm getting the information third hand but, essentially, ABS warning light on permanently and the garage has stated it is the ABS pump which has failed. He has been quoted £1800 to fix which is likely more than the car is worth now?

I've asked him to get the fault codes from the Mechanic, as described above, but can I please ask if I were able to source a second hand pump and electronics board where could i get it fitted and how much might he be looking at? The garage seems reluctant to fit it themselves for some reason and wants to direct him to Ford.

Many thanks for any help as he's currently thinking of scrapping it or selling it to a breaker.

Is Birmingham to far to get it to if not then why not give PumaBuild a call and see what they think re the fault you have, Alan might be able to help with questions you have.
PumaBits might be able to help with a second hand ABS module.
If the light is on as far as I know then the ABS is not working.
What fault codes is the car showing and is it definitely not the ABS sensors (they are less ow on price), there is a fault code article in the Wiki.
Being a Thunder it will have the digital dash and this can be put in to a basic diagnostic mode to show some fault codes.

I've no idea how to get the code from the Thunder dash but a quick search on this forum threw up the below, is this correct? If so, do I select option 4 or 5 for the Diagnostic check? Thanks:
