Hello,
I just spent 24 hours getting well stressed and thought I'd pass on my story.
I went to get new wheels yesterday and decided to get 15" the same as props so I could keep the tyres.

I went to my local tyre place and they wanted £50 minimum to do the job.......(which was a bit steep considering just how many tyres I've bought there in 8 years x 9 cars!). I went to a couple of other places, and t.b.h. the best price I could get was £9 +vat per wheel. Also, I discovered that at least one of my tyres really needed replacing, not worn, but perished through age......

The thing was I could have taken the alloys ready fitted/balanced with tyres for about £110-120 more. If I had to replace one tyre at least and pay £40-50 to do the swap-over then I was already looking at £100. SO, I went back to the wheel guys and swapped my rims for a set with tyres and paid the difference.

They didn't have to do this, and I must say how good they were about it.....thanks guys.....

So, if you're thinking of getting just wheels, think carefully, if you have the same experience as me, you might regret not doing it.......t.b.h. you get such a good discount on the tyres if you buy the wheels, it's not worth saving such a small amount, as the tyre places aren't going to do the swap for pocket money....

The ride/drive with the Yokohama A359s? is very good...I'm impressed.

think the moral of the story is don't bother chnging wheels until you have worn the tyres out.... most tyre fitters won't entertain even touching a tyre they havn't supplied.... so change both at same time...

Got a good price for my old Milly wheels on eBay probably because they had 4 nearly new tyres on.

New wheels also had new tyres on for a good price like you say, so a winner all round smile.gif

Yep.....or if you can afford to junk the old tyres......

I was surprised that it was so difficult to get the swap done. Next time I buy something I can't fit myself, I'll remember to get it in the deal......should have got the tyres to start off with......

Got to find something to do with the props......could sell the best 4/5 or maybe (as they have tyres) try spraying them black (to match) or wacky multicoloured......

One thought I did have was to give them away in a random act of kindness to someone with horrible steelies on their base model fiesta. Or car boot 'em....

I've thought about getting "free wheels" before when I've seen sets for sale with good tyres....but unless you know someone who can remove/re-fit tyres, it's clearly a nightmare.....
were your milly wheels props? - how much might one get?

Millies come with their own unique wheels. What sort of condition are your props in, I might be interested. I'm lucky enough to live near a decent garage who do tyres, who are happy to swap them about until the cows come home. Last couple of times I've been down there they've accepted the old tyres as payment in kind.

Cool, never realised this......

My props are in pretty good shape, I'll attempt to post a piccy when I roll them through to the garage. I have five and will keep the one that's least good as the spare. The rest are going (somehow!!!), or (and this will sound very sad.... happy.gif ) if I end up keeping the Puma very long-term, I might keep them as-is in a big bag, as I remember it (with toyotas) once your car reaches a certain age and you try to sell it through the club(s) often people are looking for original spec....wheels included.

I'd be pleased to see them go to a fellow PP'r but I can't pop round yours to show them to you....it's about a 5 hr drive!!!

Cheers,

Thanks el dood,

I liked them in the shop, got very cold feet as they were going on and now I keep checking out the front of my house to enjoy the sparkle....which doesn't quite show....
