Does anyone know what this is? I keep getting a pop-up saying the program has stopped working. I did a google search and it came up saying it was malware. I downloaded Spybot Search & Destroy (hadn't installed it on my laptop - which I only got in october).

Spybot hasn't removed the problem and I don't seem to be able to find an answer online... unsure.gif

malware is not good news
this is the stuff (there are zillions of these programmes) that rob you of your bank/credit card/ you name it details
listened to a very scarey Radio 4 programme on it yesterday

though what to do with it I don't know, sounds like maybe you have a security problem ja_stupid.gif but I am only guessing

hope you can fix it smile.gif

Download and run the trial version of THIS,
better than spytbot, also put the filename into your desktop search and find out
where it is located.

Try StopZilla Lisa, you can download a trial version of it that will scan your drives, but you have to buy it to actually shift the malware. It got rid of a nasty infection on my hard drive that no other anti virus/malware program could. I think it cost me $29 or so but it worked immediately.
BOK is our co-pilot.

I'm wondering whether the program is actually supposed to be there - the google search didn't come up with very many useful links...
Otherwise, would I be getting a windows error message telling me its stopped working and has been closed?

why not try that software suggested smile.gif
you know you surf all sorts on the web so no harm in checking what you have picked up along the way smile.gif

I'll try stopzilla anyway, have already tried the other one suggested smile.gif

Although I doubt I will pay for it, especially after a search I found out they charged someone for a renewal even though they hadn't used it for 2 years

The google links suggest malware with the intention that you download their software.

When doing the desktop search, did you tick the option for hidden files and folders?

Best to run anti-malware programmes in safe mode for stubborn problems- Press F8
repeatly on boot and select.

Can you do a system restore to a good known date? If successful, delete all restore points,
then create a fresh one.

I'll have a look around and see what else I can unearth smile.gif

I'll see what this Stopzilla comes up with, I think we could back up my photos etc and do a system restore if necessary.
Thanks smile.gif

System restore will not affect your personal files, although you are wise to back up
on a regular basis wink.gif

Not a lot of info on this file...

Nope... stopzilla hasn't found anything either.

Mark says it could do with formatting but that means losing WoW and that means reinstalling it and downloading about 10 gig of updates! sad.gif

I did a system restore back to Saturday and I'm still getting the message. I couldn't remember getting it any further back than Saturday. unsure.gif
Should I try further back?

I installed avg free first of all, and then I went through the steps on majorgeeks to get rid of malware (had to download 4 different programs).

Somewhere along the line I stopped getting the message so that's a result good.gif biggrin.gif

* SUPERAntiSpyware
* Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
* combofix.exe
* MGtools

one of them (combofix I think) said it should only be run if recommended by someone qualified.

The whole thread about malware is here:
