They need cleaning a lot more than advertised, so buy a cleaning kit.

Keep an eye on your MAF as the oil from the filter can get on the hot wire and cause problems. You may have gain 1/2 a bhp, but could lose 20 bhp!!

Ok, thanks for that. But call me thick, but what's the MAF. It stands for something really obvious doesn't it?!

It's definitely (well I think so, it could just be psychological) improved the throttle response, and it seems to pick up a little quicker.

I'm chuffed with it! smile.gif

'Cos surely any competent mechanic would recognise that a K&N filter doesn't need to be replaced. It could be forgiven were the K&N to look anything like the standard item, but it doesn't. If they did replace one I suspect it would be purely on grounds of being able to charge for a new one.

Well in theory, they shouldn't throw it away. A because it was replaced last year on its major service so she's only due for a standard service this year, and B because the filter came with a K&N "DO NOT DISCARD" sticker with an explanation. I've stuck that on the air box.

The MAF is the Mass Air Flow sensor which is next to your air box. It measure the amount of air going into your engine, and your ECU adjust fueling and ignition to suite from it's pre-programmed values, or map, to suite.
