turby's is nice but its too flat; the shape doesnt follow the top of the wings well. its prepreg too which is bl**dy expensive & no good for painting over; needs to be wet layed - smooth finish from the resin rather than 'feeling' the weave! pretty sure his boot & bonnet are worth more than an average whole puma!!!!

fingers crossed il be on a composites course next summer; watch this space!!

Turby's is the right shape, but because its so thin and light we haven't lined it up to sit flush with the wings. If we were worried about styling it would be done, but thats not the aim of the car wink.gif

You would be right on price too cool.gif

Edit: you can also get BLUE WEAVE too smile.gif

last time i saw it it looked lined up pretty good front & back, just seems to sag half way along the wing...

it does the job tho - covers the engine as lightly as possible - perfect!!

personally i want something i can spray.....

Why do people fit a carbon fibre 'hood' but then add the weight of a bodykit ja_stupid.gif

The same people that order a Diet Coke with their half pound double cheeseburger and fries I guess wink.gif

Its too low all the way along. Its because its thin it doesn't sit on any of the rubber stoppers along the side that are made for thicker bonnets, same with the back. The front also sits too low and makes the rubber of the headlights sit funny. People can't usually sit that when we are bombing along on track, so it doesn't really matter wink.gif

I'm not sure why you would want to spray a carbon bonnet, its it just a weight thing for you? If so the painting will add a few kg's to it!

im after either a grp or carbon bonnet to replace the original for 2 reasons

primarily to save weight

very close second - it will not rust!!!

the overall weight saving is huge, id rather have a colour coded one cos a carbon one on the road is a bit too bling for me!!!!

should only have a visible carbon one if its a visible race car....like yours....!!

my main constraints are that it must look original - so it needs a grp frame making to match the original & hopefully use the centre lock so itl need some alloy bar & reinforcing.....

i know it wont be as light as it could be but still very light compared to a steel one.....

will also make carbon or alloy hinges....

Hi Jacko,

Turby's boot is carbon Fibre as well, there's no carpet, the rear seats are just thin foam.
The car is just stripped for racing.

For road use I would be carefull how much you lighten the car.
I can lift the back wheels off the floor under very heavy braking. ohmy.gif

Plus with the massive 215-40-17 tyres you will end up with a car that is un-drivable when its wet as you won't put enough weight on foot print.

A mate has a VX220 and he says its a real hand full in the wet and undrivable in snow etc.
Same size tyres as a FRP
Almost identical BHP

and half the weight. ohmy.gif

my tyres are bigger than frp....!!!

i would say its the price you pay......

you wouldnt buy a ferrari and expect to boot it mid corner in the wet & live...!!!

most people are big girls in the snow anyway - boot the brake - youl find solid ground sooner or later, famous comments from my advanced driving instructor, who also trains the SAS!!!
