Not wanting to sound dumb, but what is a dodgy MAF?

At a guess......mass air flow? having same problem with my frp, tried so many things to get it sorted and someone on here suggested changing the mass air flow sensor.....is that the same as the lambda sensor???? i havnt got a clue about these things i just need to get it sorted!
