Hi

Don't think the power steering pump is FRP specific (is it?) so does anyone know what it's off, what alternatives would work and if any model is still available new?

Long time no post, but still luving the Puma...

Hi :-)
It is not FRP specific as far as I know, have you tried Ford for a Puma 1.7 one?
Handle the pipe with care as if it is still available 1127273 about £125 +vat

Not FRP specific but you will need a donor that also has air con.

Also common to later 16v mk5 Fiesta and 1.6 Puma but still quite rare used as they're all leaking or near to leaking by now.

Trust me...

Garage still looking into leaking pipe, but last time they did a similar Focus they had to replace the pump as well...

On the way home developed the dreaded hunting idle. Long time since I've had this but used to get it a lot - spoilt the car really.

Cured by replacing the Hego/cable/TPS all bought from Pumabuild (what's happened there?)

Are these parts still available from Ford? or anywhere?

I always do the simplistic first a battery reset (disconnect for 30 minutes) see if problem is still there afterwards.

It'll only need a pump if you've run it low due to the leak as its lubricated using the fluid.

Hi

Actually carry a spanner in the car to disconnect the battery - how mad is that?

Battery disconnected at the mo but it never cured the problem on mine, back in the day...

As I said replaced the TPS and loom a few years ago and not had a problem until recently when I noticed it was idling at about 1200 during my winter start ups. At least that might mean that the problem is not due to work carried out during its recent service. Been searching through my stuff and still have the 2008 Ford TPS repair and replacement instructions I think might have been posted by Big Al.

Think the pump should be OK (but might replace if I can locate a new one) pipe was only damp and didn't even warrant an Advisory on the MOT!

I was looking through the parts list unique to the FRP and it's quite scary to think about the difficulty in sourcing a lot of them should you need a replacement, eeekk!

I only carry a new gearbox, LSD, splitter, two spare wheels and a tasty pair of front rotors from Allison Auto, so a lot, but at the same time not a lot!

Thanks for the help...

There are alternatives for some parts and some panels have now even been fabricated and some can be patch repaired so it is not as dire as it was once thought.
