The key fob has recently stopped working completely and I'm having to open the doors, manually, using the key. For some reason, the car can only be unlocked using the passenger door, though I can lock the car at the passenger or driver's door. When I use the key all of the locks, lock/ unlock just as they did when the fob worked so the actual central locking system appears to be working. I've tried the most obvious thing and tried changing the battery in the fob. Any other suggestions?

Do you have two keys that open and start your Puma?

I have exactly the same problem. I was told it was something to do with the drivers door lock and if that was changed it would mean having a different key. Not sure how true that is as I've never chased it any further. I've just lived with it for the past 5 years.

Wow! Thanks for the super fast replies. I had no idea puma people are so active and helpful ( though I knew they have great taste in cars!)If I have to live with using a key I will (all adds to the eccentricity!) and luckily Happy- Kat I'm blessed not only with my regular ( non- working) fob by key but an 'ordinary' key and one that looks like a T shaped effort. Can any of them help in any way?

Try first getting some penetrating oil in there to free the lock up.

Surely they didn't tell you that at Ford?

If you buy a cylinder repair kit (from Ford), you can rebuild the lock with the right bits to fit your key...

I did that with my Fiesta Boot lock when it all jammed up inside... have to say, it was a pain in the arse though...

Have you tried reprogramming the remote since changing the battery?

That rings a bell but it was so long ago now that I can't remember why I didn't follow it up. No, it wasn't a Ford dealer.
