Howdy Puma People
I had a leak from my engine coolant a while back which Ford fixed (at the same time replacing a leaky water pump). Its been about 3 weeks since the repair and up until now the coolant level has stayed as expected. But just noticed tonight its dropped half an inch below the Min level. I do a fair amount of mileage (about 90 a day) so wondering if its normal?
Im pretty sure I havent ever had to top this up on a regular basis so wondering if the thing is leaking again, just wanted some quick advice before I go moaning at the garage - they can be pretty useless with customer complaints..

How many miles do you do and at what speeds?
I have to top mine up every now and then but i do drive it hard and about 1000 miles a month too.

I do about 1500 a month and drive between 70-80MPH, its all motorway as well.
Just thought after 3 weeks it was a bit quick for a top up , thinking it was leaking again. But if its normal I will top it up again and keep an eye on it.

It might just be a bubble of air has managed to work it's way back to the expansion chamber from somewhere. Or maybe not.

the only time my coolant went down is when I had leaking core plug.
If you take the plastic rocker top cover off and there is coolant round your spark plugs, that's the problem.
But there are other ways for it to leak too.
It shouldn't really go down James even when doing 10k a year in my old Puma it didn't need topping up (other than the core plug leak) never topped the FRP up

I have no leaks at all and all pipes/seals etc etc were checked when we did the engine change.
Its not a massive drop. just sometimes goes below max line.

We never topped our Puma's coolant up. In fact, the only time I have ever had to top up a car's coolant regularly has been when there was a problem, like a pipe weeping etc
I would get the system pressure tested just to be on the safe side.

Well... it was a blown radiator! As I drove home yesterday there was a puff of smoke from the engine and a pretty nasty burnt out smell, then nothing. After a panic assumed it was either the smelly car in front of me or my mind playing tricks. Later noticed the coolant had started to leak and on another drive saw a pretty large amount of smoke from under the bonnet. Thought perhaps the water pump they replaced had blown again, but no it was ther rad. Cost 180 odd quid, on top of the 400 quid two weeks ago and the 300 from the service, my baby is costing me a fortune.
I guess a car approaching 100,000 miles like mine is due to fail all over at some point, rubbish part is that I just quit work and start uni in a couple of weeks and this is my cars last final two fingers up to all the mileage its been put through for work these last few years!

glad it's fixed and you didn't suffer a warped head or anything engine terminal shame about the pennies though first radiator that I have heard of going (though perhaps second at most)
