Hi everyone
Sorry to come on here for the first time with a problem, but this is doin me head in.
Have read alot of post's about faulty HCV's, however I have one sympton I can't find.
The heater in the car works fine hot and cold. Tempature gauge runs at between 10 and 12 o'clock but flucuates up and down badly.
If I drive reasonably hard e.g 80 to 90 mph the gauge rises rapidly to near the red zone,as soon as I back off the throttle it drops back.
It started this nonsence after I had the head gasket replaced. The head was skimmed also. After a while it seemed to sort itself out but then started it again. Its been doin it on and off for several months now.
After being away for a couple of weeks holiday I started the car drove probably 10 miles ok got onto the motorway put the foot down and the tempature went up again.
Sorry to drag this thread out but it's thebest way to explain what's happening
Could someone please help as like I said this is doin me head in

lastly on your 1.7 has the cam belt been changed? (not related but well overdue if not done and new to you)

searching is fruitful | I'm a sponge not a mechanic | please do try that if stuck with a Puma problem whilst waiting for a reply | For the Puma fan this read 'The Inside Story Book' is very nice to own sometimes still seen for sale

has your coolant system been filled and bled properly? your temp gauge may be reading the temp of an air pocket

Just to say cambelt was changed when headgasket was done. The problem started after it was changed am wondering whether the coolant system has been bled properly and there's an airlock causing the tempature to rise and fall
