Hello Everyone,

I had a small dent on my moondust silver thunder, applied a small amount of filler. I then sprayed on grey primer followed by moondust silver paint from Halfords. In between the primer and silver paint I rubbed down with 1200 grit paper and then before I applied the laquer I again rubbed down with 1200 grit paper. The paint was 'matt' appearance and looked pretty good, nice and smooth and ready for the laquer.

I sprayed on the laquer onto the silver paint that I applied the day before and it turned darker.

Does anyone know why this has happened?

Cheers
Sean

Has it finally dried darker or did it lighten again?

Halfords it's been found doesn't match as well as Ford's own touch up paint.

Hello happy kat,

I'm going to check again tomorrow morning, it was getting lighter during the day as it was drying off.. Fingers crossed it will be ok.

PS. I was going to use a cutting compound and then some polish to finish it off so that it blends as much as possible. I'm going to give the laquer at least two weeks to harden before I do anything, do you think that would help?

I don't think so, you'll just make the lacquer thinner.

Hello Happy-Kat

It's a tad lighter today, not too sure what to do.

Do I:- polish it with the rest of the body with autoglym products and see what happens or....... do I take it to a bodyshop specialist here in Norwich and get it done properly. The rest of the car bodywork wise is spotless even the wheel arches are rust free and original ^_^/>

Personally save the money these are old now something will need doing maintenance wise.
With the monery saved buy some Bilt&Hamber s50 and spray your sills and other areas.
Member YOG and myself both have threads on where we rust treated and the wiki does have rear arch rust from the inside possible prevention.
