Me and Dad changed the HCV around 6 weeks ago. I topped up coolant to the MAX mark in the tank. Went out last night and it's about 1cm below the max line now. It's bone dry around the HCV connections.

Could this be a tiny leak somewhere. It's done around 1000 miles since. It's due it's cam change and I'm wondering if the water pump may be starting to weep? Is there anything common other than the HCV that I could replace like the actual tank, pipes etc. I'll top up and monitor.

You might have had an air blockage that has now cleared.
Could Check core plugs in case they have started to leak look under the plastic cover the tops of your spark plugs would be in coolant if they are leaking.
Just a couple ideas

Actually in the daylight, I have noted it's bang on the min line which I think may be more than a coincidence. I have a feeling as it was dark at the time (always the case), I may have only topped it up to the min and not the max by mistake. I'll keep an eye on it but I think it may have been user error!

I'd be running for longer and keeping an eye on the level a few more times before worrying too much.

Also ensure that the engine is absolutely cold when you check it.
