Yes, the subframe can be removed without taking the gearbox or engine out.
I had it done as part of my rust prevention project.
They are very expensive new but Ian should be able to supply one second hand as he breaks Pumas. Ian G.

cheers, thank you for the info, i'm looking at buying a puma that needs the subframe replacing due to hitting a pot hole and cracking it.

the seller has already sourced a very good subframe that comes with the car, not seen it yet so not sure if it will need much more doing, i would imagine if the subframe has cracked then some suspension damadge will have occured too.

depends on the price of the car and the cost to get the subframe swapped over.
regards

phil

That must have been a pretty major pot hole.
The lower gear box mount was removed it was done with trolley jacks and axle stands and two people. Fag of a job.

Maybe look at some other Pumas too.

there's no way hitting a pot hole would damage the subframe...just can't see it...

surely would have wiped out a whole load of other parts along the way...

sounds ridiculous to me.. major accident..??

the rest of the car is ok as far as damadge goes, not seen it yet but im sure there must be some suspension to replace too, im thinking the subframe was already cracking and the pot hole may have done more, i am going to view the car tomorrow so will have a good look underneath, have been quoted 70.00 by a mechanic i know to swap the subframe.

the owner has had the puma for a few years and states he is only selling due to buying a car from work at a really good price, he was intending to repair it as he has the replacement subframe to fit.

a look around the car should give some answers, he has had the rear arches done by a bodyshop and the sills are in really good condition, all a good plus on the puma.
cheers
