Hi peeps,
I, like many other Puma owners, have found that my rear arches are rusting (97 R reg). After having the rust inspected it is clear that the problem lies with the rear arch liners retaining water and then this is constantly in contact with the metal on the inside of the arches.

I believe that Ford’s anti-corrosion warranty was for 6 years and therefore has expired but with it being such an obvious design fault on Ford’s part I was wondering if there would be any chance of getting Ford to pay part of the cost. I know that this is a long shot but I am sure that there are, or are going to be, many disgruntled owners.

Would it make a difference if a large number of people complained? (Lots of peeps out there, it could happen).

I’m interested to see how the discussion on this one unfolds.
Do not underestimate the Puma.

Unfortunately I can't help thinking there's no chance sad.gif
I'd be willing to write to Ford and complain, but wouldn't be optimistic about getting a result.

The 6 year warranty only works if the rust starts on the inside of the panel and works its way to the outside.

One of the biggest cons in the motoring industry, not worth the paper its written on...

Ah, so the fact that this is what has happened after 7.5 years means that Ford have covered their backs?

I think Matt's point is that your rust would have needed to start from the inside of the card through to the wheel arch! blink.gif Mind you I shouldn't be surprised, I do work for a financial services company - we specialise is 3pt type!

My Kat ('98) was showing signs of perforation rust on rear wheel arch (drivers sdie - due to the liner probably) but as it's over the 6yr perforation w'tee there's no way on earth IMO that Ford will cough up...

At least my Focus has a 12 year anti-perforation w'tee...

IIRC Ford will only honour the paint warranty if you have had an annual paint check (usually done at the same time as a service) - which you have to pay for. Not majorly expensive at about a fiver or so, but still a rip-off really. 7.gif
