There are a few details of cost etc of Turbys puma over on RPOC.... your looking at around 7k upwards for the project to see it through properly....

very few have gone ahead with this due to the complexity and heafty cost...

i am presuming you are talking about the 1.7? if so it will be a very costly, you will need, a custom exhaust manifold, forged pistons and rods, possibly crank (although i cant remember what they are rated to) aftermaket ECU, throttle body that works on a turbo charged engine, intercooler, turbo, custom pipe work/plenum etc.

if i was looking to build a Puma turbo, i would look to use a CVH turbo, as they can be picked up pretty cheap and are fairly abundant with many companies catering for them, and as a puma is basically a variation of a fiesta, it will near enough bolt straight in. or possibly a zetec turbo, but they are a biy dearer

I'd be interested to know as well smile.gif

Before you look at CVH conversions - do some searching on here.

My Puma has one - have a read of this...

Mines going to be a Zetec turbo very shortly, it won't cost anywhere near 7k either as my husband is doing the conversion. watch this space for updates. ja_cool.gif

How much less and who rated it? Isn't this more to do with the higher RPM used in N/A tuned engines rather than BHP?

Jolly good biggrin.gif I take it its a 2 litre all Zetec conversion or is it a ZVH ? When's it being started / finished ?

It about time we had another Puma turbo on the scene smile.gif

Its Zetec, he's just building a little something at the moment so as soon as thats done mine will be going into the garage a little cat and coming out a tiger lol. I can't wait!!! Thinking of leaving it standard looking sleeper style but obviously uprating everything non cosmetic.

RPM and BHP go hand in hand as BHP = Torque x RPM, but as for power rating after a little more investigation it seems i have given you some duff information, it seems they are infact fitted with forged cranks

I've got a 1.6 cvh n/a engine I'm planning to recon, and may turn it into a turbo unit. I would love to fit it in my puma and I could do most of the work myself except the electric's. I would be greatful if you could keep me updated on your progress on this conversion. Good luck mrpike rolleyes.gif

i believe you can get custom engine looms from NMS (see my siggie) for custom application CVH conversions

and has masses of torque so doesn't need to rev its cojones off... unlike a N/A enigne which has little torque and so needs to rev and rev to get its power...

Dont forget you need to modify bell housing to incorporate the CVH starter which is 120 degrees forward of the Zetec position

I dont get why even now people are insisting on the 1.6 CVH!!! If youve already got one fitted then fair enough. In its day it was a good turbo unit but even the CVH boys are going for zetecs considering you can pick them up dirt cheap and for a similar spend on a zetec turbo when compared to a CVH turbo, pound for pound youll get more performance. Not to mention the fact a 250bhp zetec turbo will be more reliable than a 250bhp CVH turbo. Plus for future tuning the zetec is miles ahead as 250bhp on a zetec turbo is mild.

My thoughts too.

It's probably easier to find a good used Zetec engine as the CVH is getting rather long in the tooth and no doubt trickier to legitemately get through an emmissions test.
