Help. I only have one key as dad lost the other :/ I've contacted ford and they said its unlikely they can make me a new key as car's too old (1999) and that car will be write off if I lose the key! I'm now obsessive about the keys location. I know nothing about cars let alone this one. They also said it will be difficult to repair now because of age and parts etc. I'm hoping one of you lovely people can help. I'm in northants.

Wouldn't bother with that dealer.
Where are you located there are plenty puma friendly garages dotted around the UK.
Pumabuild in Birmingham is not far give them a call re keys.
75% puma parts are fiesta of same era.
An autosmith can sort out your key issue too if you have one you have used before.

They don't half talk some poppycock.

You'd need a lock set and and ECU, costs about £100 but you would need to fit it all.

Timpsons can make you a spare, costs about £30.

An autosmith can provide a new key without you buying and fitting a new lockset if that is not something you would be able to do.
So can Ford but Ford will be the most expensve at about £130.00 with a none remote key.
Ring a different Ford garage to the one you tried.
Ring Pumabuild.
This is a problem you can fix just as Ian says ignore your Dealer that you spoke to they are gloomy.

Ignore Fraud main dealers you can get a key no problem, and for less than the £70 they want to just look at it.

I begged And pleaded and mum found the spare keys... In the key cabinet. Still shocked at how much it costs and how happy ford are to over charge. We are buying new spare keys and coding them for all our cars now while we have two. Thanks for your advice on this.

Brilliant.
There is a key coding article in the Wiki so you can save money and do it yourself.

I had a non remote spare done at Timpsons, the Ford dealer goes to them when they need keys cutting.
Non remote key costs about £30.

Hi!
When I bought my Puma the remote key was lost, so I only have the non-remote with the starter lock function and one very slim key that just opens the door. I couldn't find anything on keys in the Wiki. What do I do to get a spare with the starter lock/unlock function, and preferably one with remote. I saw on E-bay that it is possible to buy uncut remote keys - but can I program it for the starter lock? For example: http://www.ebay.co.u...=item5d444c2d98

If you have two keys that right now open and start the engine you can program a new key yourself.
If you have only one key that opens and starts the car you will need to use either Ford or say and Autolock smith. The latter will be cheaper.

OK, only have one transponder key, so I will have to buy a blank key with transponder and then let either Ford or an auto locksmith cut and program it. Thanks for the info!

Auto locksmith quoted me 80 ford said it could cost 2-3 hours labour but couldn't guarantee they could do it.

Is it possible to reprogram an old key from another vehicle, or are the things 'read-only'?

The easiest route would be to take the transponder out of the old key and put in it in the new housing. Then you can program your ECU to recognise it and that is it!
