Monday's lightening strike blew the roof of a bungalow 4 doors away from my in-laws. Luckily the occupant of the bungalow was OK although with the resulting fire the bungalows little more than a shell.
My in-laws thought a bomb had gone off, my father -law's computer was off but the plug was on. The internet wouldn't work, after contacting India- luckily not being charged for the 20+ minute call. It was found that the Broadband Modem is kn*ackered because of the electrical strike-He had a anti-surge plugs to the PC which I thought protected against this They're sending a free Broadband Modem to him. My father-law is even worse than me with a computer

We managed to escape the storms here. I'm glad it was only the internet that suffered!!

Modem wont have been protected if the surge came down the phoneline rather than the power unless your surge protector allows you to filter your phoneline aswell, always best to read a book when theres a thunderstorm and unplug anything electrical from the socket.

None here either! I must admit I always do the 'running around unplugging stuff' thing during a storm, but never think of the phone line!
