My Track Day Turbo Puma Finished Rate Topic: -----

Hi guys,

Ive just about finished the Turbo Puma ive been building for the last 3 months, with info greatly recived from Toby.

It just needs the new Emerald ecu mapping and its good to go. Its going down to Norwich next week and hopefully should have some dyno figures for ya all.





Can i just say thanks to Toby and all the other guys who prised money out of my pocket for parts laugh.gif and I hope to see some of you at Track Days

wow, another turbo puma...well done!!

the engine bay certainly looks a little fuller.. smile.gif

bet that set you back a fair few quid... huh.gif

nice, my pockets just arent full enough to even dream of this yet... despite the fact ive been eyeing up warrens cossie puma for the last 2 hours!!! the words 'pie' and 'sky' come to mind for me sad.gif

Hi Chris, not a cheap job, it seems when suppliers put motorsport on their parts for some reason they triple in value............ wacko.gif

Biggest single expense so far was the pistons.



At least ive built it myself so know exactly how much care has gone into the build. Engine has no leaks and you can rest a 50p on the rocker cover as its that smooth.

At least its got calipers on that you overhauled!!!!! biggrin.gif

whats the going rate for forged pistons then...? were they custom made to your own spec ...??

i know if i want to take my Nitrous further (which i don't really..) stock pistons would have to go... mellow.gif

Custom made by arias, £800.00 but are well made, I rung JE pistons and someone else but cant remember who, Toby gave me the names. I went for the arias as the guy I spoke to took time to talk to me and didnt pressure me into buying.
The only scary bit is when you tell them the measurements and they order them, you cannot send them back......... biggrin.gif

They always spoke to me straight away and I never felt as though i was a nuisense.!!!

Darnt even work it out, but sourced alot of stuff 2nd hand and overhauled it. I bought 3 engine blocks before i got a good one, bought 2 cylinder heads, 3 sets of front brakes, 300mm, 280mm and alcons. Fitted the alcons cos they had been overhauled by chris smile.gif and to be honest felt much better than the others. 2nd hand fiesta ps pump and mount, took my original pump (35,000 miler) and fitted it to the PS carrier.
Oh full Ford genuine head and engine set £400.00 by the way....Daylight robbery, Turbo £400.00, ECU £580.00, Water pump £18.00, new seats £250.00, OZ spare wets £250..AP suspension £250.00, Pistons £800.00, Mains and Big ends £110.00, Oil Cooler £80.00, Oil take of plate £50.00 All hoses/fittings for engine, oil cooler etc £250.00, New RS rear calipers £48.00 each, handbrake cables to fit £22.00, eibach spacers £170.00 and loads more. oil, oil filter, coolant, gearoil, clutch,Thermostat, spark plugs,fuel filter, oh fuel pump for tank, had the map sensor, fuel reg allready, nuts /bolts /clips, oil pump,the list is endless.

I was quite lucky as this was originally a blown up turbo conversion (SVM) so the charge cooler, oil return to sump and intercooler was already there and thats the only things that have been put back on!!!
Never again, stick to throttle bodies!!!

Still to do, ecu remap (fortune), quaife diff £500.00 still to fit, graphics, roll cage £600.00, slicks to buy woot2.gif

searching is fruitful | I'm a sponge not a mechanic | please do try that if stuck with a Puma problem whilst waiting for a reply | For the Puma fan this read 'The Inside Story Book' is very nice to own sometimes still seen for sale

Projects like this are certainly more financially do'able when you can bump up some of the labour yourself.... ja_cool.gif

Iv'e just spent 4 days solid rebuilding the interior back in my FRP and totally re-wiring the sound, changing the speakers etc etc etc... wacko.gif wacko.gif

you just couldn't pay for that sort of time and care that you'd put in your own motor...and very satisfying when done...

don't be too concerned with what it makes at the rollers.... if it feels good and puts and smile on your face, then it's all good... woot2.gif

Whats the full spec?? What you hoping to achieve power and torque wise and at what level boost??

Paying someone to do the work, just makes it toooooooo expensive. Chris youre right about its very satisfying to do the work yourself even though it can be a little frustrating at times......... biggrin.gif

Warren, what spec do you require. Im hoping to achieve power wise anything better than stock.... biggrin.gif . Its on the rolling road next wednesday to be mapped so only a few days to find out..........Ill post the print out when i get them for ya!!! good.gif

Also how are you running your boost control??? I presume an electronically controlled solenoid boost control valve? Is it run by the ECU or a seperate boost controller?? Fully controllable boost map?? And are you still running closed loop fuelling???

Warren car not set up just yet, Emerald ecu can run closed, open and adaptive set up, so going to let Dave Walker set it up and advise on whats the best. Boost controller is ecu controlled, Using a charge cooler, uprated fuel pump, bigger injectors,T28 high flow turbo.CR 8.5:1.. I will fit a wide band lambda so I can play around with it later.

Can you post up the print out you recieve?? will be interesting to see how well and when it generates its torque and power.

You having a road and track map so you can get fuel economy on the daily drive and sacrifice it for power on track days???

You can switch between 3 maps on road with the emerald. So going to have fast faster and fastest biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

i think prob just urban (MOT), wet and dry. If i get a pull on road, just turn the knob to MOT position biggrin.gif
Quite worried know just watched a video of a car on a rolling road..........OOOhhh my new engine blink.gif
