Hi, the puma's me and my dad are racing are on chalk are really losing out to the corners and startline where the wheels aren't putting down the power, the other racers at the track all have their diffs locked. I want to weld the diff in my puma but not sure how to. Has anyone else on here locked the diffs of their puma's?

Done it with RWD grass track Escorts, but FWD will be a night mare I think.
My Racing Puma has a Ford Escort RS Turbo series 2 LSD fitted.
They turn up on Ebay for about £50 and need a different front bearing and about 2mm machined off the otter diameter.
A much better option ;)

The crown wheel is very slightly smaller so you need to machine just a fraction off it.
The bearing at the Speedo drive side of the diff also needs chnaging to a IB5 Type of bearing. Handy as you need to remove the old bearing to change the speedo drive wheel ;)/>

I would ask around the paddock on what they run diff wise, lots of oval racing fwd cars have their diffs welded up with no real problems when running at racing speeds slow speed stuff is a bit harder going though but as they are only used for racing then its not so much of a problem. The only problem I could see with the viscous RST item is that it may overheat the fluid inside it that would then reduce it effectiveness during the race as the loose surface could work it quite hard. If you are only doing short stints then it might not be a problem.

Asked around the other racers this weekend gone and it seems that virtually everyone has welded locked diffs. Got to sort out a more pressing issue with the suspension mount on mine and will move it in to camber the wheel first between this meeting and the next and then will lock the diff. Apparently you need lots more muscle moving the wheel when the diff is locked though. Now to find a video as to how to lock the diff on the iB5 gearbox!

IB5 is of essentially the same basic construction as earlier BC5 if that helps
