My new car has a bigger boot, cheaper tyres and tax, far more mpg and is far faster.

I ended up getting a silver grey Passat estate SE TDI PD130. FOrtnately it doesnt have all that on the back on the badge.

Should pick it up tomorrow. Woohoo! biggrin.gif

I may have to use more lanes on the mtorway now I am getting rid of the Volvo. Can anyone remember how indicators work? Is 2 feet a safe distance to follow at 80mph? ohmy.gif

Mine is newer and far less miles but it is more or less identical.

My mum has the same car I think, does it have the 6 speed 'box?

Hers is great it's comfy, fast, big and reliable. It has done about 250,000 (ex rep car) and the only problem she had was with the head gasket last year.

Enjoy! (it does sound like a tractor though laugh.gif )

hope you have fun with the new motor. The engine should be a bit of fun. All you need now is to superchip it and have even more fun wink.gif laugh.gif should give around 30BHP and 41lb/ft torque extra biggrin.gif

I hope it rides better than the 110BHP saloon version one of the managers had here. It was so soft and wallowy especially compared with the puma. you could go over those small square speed humps with one wheel over the highest points at 30mph and hardly feel it lol.

it was good on the mpg though. I took it for a ride up to buxton for a meeting (about 45-55 minutes each way) and even thrashing it down the country lanes in 3rd gear the trip computer was still claiming over 40mpg smile.gif

It is far nicer inside than my old reptatastic Signum and a fair bit faster too.

CAn fit a lot of baby clobber in too. biggrin.gif

Only has the 5 speed box, I did look at the Sport version whixh has the 6 speed but the seats are "sports" so less comfy and the wheels are bigger (expensive tyres) and the dealer was aggresively pushy and didnt offer as much in trade in and no warranty!

I also like the grey.

I can take out the Cupta for fun. I have replaced a volvo so I am getting younger in car years!

In about 16 or 17 years time I will realise I am an old fart when Emilys friends see me as an old man and THEN I will buy an innapropriate car. Probably a Cayman S. tongue.gif

no no no, cos then they will see you for the midlife crisis youve become!! Do it with style and get a 70s classic or a cosworth and at least you have that "retro cool" and maintain a bit of dignity and self respect in the process!!! laugh.gif wink.gif

I would have happily had an Audi RS4 or RS6 but sadly they are very expensive.

The Passat is stupendously rapid in gear, even if not the sharpest round the twisty bits, so at least i can overtake again. Not something that was easy in teh Volvo. laugh.gif

I am not old though, i just have a kid and dont want to leave things behnd when we go places. tongue.gif

laugh.gif the one that surprised one of my relatives was when I accused him of getting old when he got a civic.

My reasoning was that the civics only appeal to two types of drivers. The type-R for the boyracers or the standard low power models for old fogies. As I know he's not a boyracer then I reasoned he must be getting old as it was just a 1.4 (or something like that) smile.gif

My Mum had a passat a few years ago. It was MAHOOSIVE - so much leg room in the back! good.gif

I think I'd like a Bora smile.gif (especially if they still have the flashy fluorescent pink dials)

flourescent pink dials? You are hallucinating Lisa. They have purpley blue and red dials, same as golfs, passats, polos etc.

I dont know how great the boot shape is for prams but it is vertainly quite big. My neighbour and a mate both have more or less the same one and really like it plus mos of my family have been running golfs for over ten years and again, swear by them.

A test drive might convince you otherwise dry.gif

Passat is a good choice for long distance straight roads and blending in with the crowd...

I love the way the LED rear lights work on the current Passat model (just the rear lights though) ja_cool.gif

A lot of former civic driving oldies migrated to the honda jazz laugh.gif Now that truley IS a car synonymous with old people!!!

I looked briefly at a new model but it was only the 105 1.9 and it was still £1000 more than i wanted to shell out.

I will probably swap to a newr one in a few years or so. If I can afford to! laugh.gif
