I do not dispute that - I just do not get the opportunity to go away on holiday as much as you!

I know the thread's gone a bit on the quiet side, but just to let everyone know, I will be planning the route this weekend. Next weekend is the Essex meet, then I've got another weeken d to double check the route, then it's Ford Fair... I'm gonna be a bit on the busy side methinks! laugh.gif

It would be good if we can get more people interested in this.

I have a provisional route planned out. biggrin.gif I'm not sure on the mileage or time, but I will test drive it either today or tomorrow. I'm thinking possibly tomorrow to see what the Sunday traffic is like.

Roughly. Start at Ashby de la Zouch (exact location depends on numbers attending), up past Staunton Harold, Ticknall, past Foremarke Reservior with possibly a photo stop, Repton, over the A38 (not keen on that, but the alternative is through Burton on Trent itself) run down parallel the A38, back over it again after Barton under Needwood, gratuitously long route to the 4 Counties Inn at No Man's Heath where we will stop for a breather, down to Polesworth, across to Bosworth and back up to Ashby. Once back at Ashby, we can then pick somewhere to eat; there's plenty of restaurants in the town itself, or there's a Brewers Fayre just on the edge.

If that's a little too long, the route can be cut short not long after Polesworth and we can eat at the Appleby Inn (I love the food in this place!) on the A444 near J11 of the M42/A42.

sounds excellent - can't wait

doesn't sound too long, but do we go into all 4 counties?

some nice places, though I do not know the roads so for slow-coaches like me can we have directions and/or postcodses for satnave please?

I goes through all 4 counties, I made sure of that! When I do the test run, I'll make a note of significant landmarks, pubs etc, then get the postcodes for them. I won't be driving as fast as some do on meets, maybe the odd spurt of speed if the roads are clear, but no more than that.

It was here when I set off, got out of Ashby and couldn't see a thing! I think a lot of the roads I've picked would be better in the dry. Poor Puma looks like I've been rallying in her!

I've clocked up just over 100 miles, but I also got turned around twice, and had to backtrack once as one of the roads I intended to use turned out to be a single track road. huh.gif Not good for even a small convoy of Pumas!

I had intended to stop at Foremarke Reservior as our first stop, but I think if we do, we'll get there early and spend a while there to make the £1.50 per car parking charges worth it. Along those lines, if we meet earlier than some of the other meets I've attended, we can have a picnic there for lunch rather than a pub.

There are a few other places to stop along the route too, so it won't be solid driving.
