Thought I would post my track car build as I've been lurking for a while...

It all started with my son building a Fiesta Zetec S with a Puma engine Posted Image an amazing little car that out performed lots of bigger engined beasts on track...having driven it, I wanted in so I being an MG enthusiast, I built a V6 MGZS 180 track car Posted Image

This was great fun, until we went to Silverstone. There the Pumesta absolutely mullered the MG, so I decided thats it sell the MG and compete on equal terms so I bout a £350 Puma Posted Image

146000 miles on the clock, rusty back arches but drove well and had a full leather interior in very good condition.

With the funds from selling the MG went on a bit of a spending spree Posted Image

This included full polybush kit, 4-2-1 manifold, straight through exhaust and a fancy back box. I also got a set of team dynamics powder coated Peugeot wheels with a 20mm offset that meant I didn't need any spacers Posted Image

Work started stripping everything out Posted Image

and welding a few patches in the floor up Posted Image

Seat bases welded in Posted Image and new buckets fitted with harnesses Posted Image

next up OMP Strut braces front upper and lower and rear upper fitted Posted Image
Posted Image

A nice deep dish steering wheel and we are getting there Posted Image

Next up fitted the 4-2-1 manifold and polybushes Posted Image

Posted Image
Posted Image

Removed the fancy back box as it was too loud and fitted a Miltek
Posted Image

Still looking like a 4 x 4 Posted Image

Secided to tackle the rusty arches and with no bodywork skills or knowledge of painting metalics, thought we would have a bash
Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image

Turned out pretty good
Posted Image

A couple of little additions for the Ford look
Posted Image
Posted Image

Then fitted a full set of coil overs with 100mm drop and computerized set up for alignment

Then started adding some graphics
Posted Image

and finished up looking like this

So with a long list of more jobs to complete, booked a track day at Oulton Park for March 15th.

Just fitted 4 brand new Toyo T1R's and a full set of Mintex discs, pads and rear shoes.

Had a full service including an engine flush and fuel cleaner

parts bought and jobs to do:

relocate battery to the boot
repipe brake lines inside the car with a brake bias valve
remove sound deadening along with some more lightening of the shell

Long term goals:
fibreglass bonnet and boot
Perspex glass all round
semi slicks
roll cage

Wow been busy. B)
Did you also change the cam belt, tensioner and stuff?
Puma offset range is ET34-38.
Bet you have loads of fun in your puma, you might enjoy the puma cup thread.

yeah got Puma cup on Facebook.

Had a fairly complete service history with the car plus a shed load of recepts, one was for a cambelt change at 125000 so didn't bother.

It is 5 years or 80k miles for the 1.7 which ever occurs first in case it has been slow to ramp mileage recently.
I like the black and green theme with the wheels.
This Puma has certainly cleaned up well and what a bargain they are to buy now.

no not snow, its the lake at Oulton.

Car was brilliant, did around 150 miles on track flat out. Brake pads made a lot of dust and the tyres scrubbed a bit but otherwise everything was perfect.

Car handled superbly and just got faster and faster through the day

Plenty left to do, lots of weight to lose and a bit more power to add
