Engine out and time for a good service...
as you can see the engine looks a bit old and grubby...so time to give it a makeover..
you can see already down by the bottom pulley it's very messy and oily, so am suspecting the crank seal is leaking straight away...
here I'm just running a tap into the pulley threads to make bolts on the removal tool much easier to insert
here it comes off with the SPX tool
you can see here now clearly, the crank seal is leaking quite noticeably..

mounted the engine to my stand and turned it upsidedown to remove the sump sections ans get to the oil pump etc...
Oil pump cleaned up with a new seal in there..
fitted the pump back...got the sump sections blast cleaned and refitted back with new bolts and wurth sealant...
I took this photo to show how utterly ridiculous it is to access one of the alternator bolts that's right next to the inlet pipe... so stupid it's crazy...with the engine in it's almost impossible to access it!..
new thermostat
cleaned out the front crankcase breather box and changed the oil separator valve
also the aircharge sensor underneath the inlet... again, all so easy to access with the engine out!

Just looking at that pic of the alternator bolt access. Makes me laugh when in the workshop manual the procedure for removing alternator is.....remove auxillary drive belt, remove electrical connections to alternator, remove alternator mounting bolts (with arrows pointing to them). As easy as that !

on to the grubby looking gearbox..
first of all gave it a good clean round before opening it up and taking everything out..
here are the parts i'm going to replace...
centralising selector spring - Sector bar seal and external boot - Drive shaft oil seal and the 5th gear housing gasket
All finished ... with new slave cylinder too..
didn't get round to taking any pictures inside the box but basically you've got to remove everything to get to the selector mech and withdraw the bar...it's a right faff!
on to the tired looking Wishbones...
hard to see on the pictures, but the bushes are totally knackerd, all the bush is separating from it's casing and a bit aged!..
on with the new bushes.. (FRP fully shouldered ones now £36 each..lol!!)...also a powerflex kit for the front sockets..

The cat rubber oh boy !! lucky didn't have other problems from that as puts greater strain on the manifold when that is perished.

That view of the sump looks very nice. Only slightly spoiled by the patchy crank pulley, I probably would have slapped a bit of black paint on to freshen it up a bit, but I am a bit fussy

no point trying to tart up the bottom pulley I think, what ever you paint it with won't last two minutes...a new one looks quite nice tho..
