Hi,
My first post and what a great site!! My wife has bought herself a 1999 1.7 Puma in Silver and apart from one niggle it’s brilliant, so much fun to drive and it looks great. The upside of this purchase is that at the moment if one of the kids needs taking anywhere she volunteers straight away. The downside is that someone has to fix the niggle and that’s me, so finding this site has been a godsend.

At the moment we have water ingress into the foot wells and I’m working my way through all the possible causes as mentioned in the forum ie. Grommet behind fuse box, cleaning A/C hose, checking bulkhead sealant and checking windows. Is there anyone out there that has actually cured this problem?

I’ve looked on the TSB board and can’t seem to find 078/1999 12/04/2001Water ingress Supplement to Guide to Windnoise and Water Leaks for Fiesta, Ka and Puma. Covers frequently-encountered Puma problem of leak through wiring-harness hole in bulkhead leading to wet footwells and soggy carpets.

Any ideas???

Where does the water appear?

Is it driver or passenger footwell?

Is the carpet wet on the doorpost side or under the centre console?

The water appears in both footwells near to the centre console.

Sounds like you have a leak around the heater matrix.

Open bonnet, just under window in the centre you will find two pipes going into a black box, back out and into the car. (this black box is the heater control valve with fail on a regular basis)

The matix seals around the top of the scuttle panel have a habit of drying out and leaking. Since the is the lowest point on the scuttle panel, any water running down the windscreen when the car is parked up tend to form hear.

You need to unbolt it, and run a bead of sealer around it.

HTH

Well, slightly better news on the water ingress front. I had a look around the heater matrix as Matt suggested and found it full of water and general crud! So I cleaned it out and vacuumed it with a wet & dry vacuum, and it’s seemed to improve sufficiently for now. I’ll leave it a bit and see if it’s stopped completely.
Bye the way Roy, sorry to go off topic but great Avtar!! I saw Hawkwind several times in the Seventies and had the poster that came with the space ritual album signed by Stacia (wish I had kept it). Two of the support acts I can remember were Heavy Metal Kids and Dr Feelgood. Oh Happy days

Glad you've found the (possible) cause of the damp carpets :-)

Thanks to all for the warm welcome, I’m just off to get some oil for the puma as I stuck 15w 40 in it the other day and then read on here how important it is to get the right sort, so it’s an oil change day on Sat Doh!

I’ve also discovered Pumabuild from this site and it’s in Birmingham, can’t be bad, so when the next service is due I’ll be paying a visit.
