What are the differences between the 2 exhaust systems? i know the back boxes are the same baring the tail pipe but what are the main differences that give the frp the sound it has? 10.gif

my old system used to have exactly the same pops and crackles and i think its all too do with the 4-2-1 manifold and the sports cat 10.gif

my frp is quieter than my old piper but exactly the same popping wise 10.gif .

well i think the frp does it a bit more bvut i think this is due to the fact that it chucks more fuel into the engine with the uprated bits smile.gif .

for the noise and practicallity would look to the stainless steel systems that give the same effect as the FRP re pops crackles etc. Both Pumabuild and Pumaspeed offer a 4.2.1 manifold, centre section and backbox in stainless the firsy by Piper and the latter by Miltek I think.

the standard Puma makes the crackles too this was just amplified in the FRP by changing the manifold as this is where the noise is made. Peter Beattie gave the story smile.gif was interesting but I could have remembered it wrong.

Well Kate as you know my views on thr FRP, i'd love my Standard to snap, crackle and pop.
I thought it was due to the different cam duration myself.

Whats the frp like with just normal day to day driving; does the exhaust noise intrude into the cabin at all? When my exhaust does go i would like a compromise between a nice sporty sound possibly with crackles and pops ja_cool.gif , but also for it to not intrude into the cabin as i do a fair amount of miles each year.

Made this mistake with my last car, got a stainless Peco system for my Punto and once the engine was up at temp it was unbareable inside the car on a long journey, i actually put a stash of earplugs in my glovebox for when i was driving any longer than 30 mins. moony.gif 9.gif

Does the FRP have a bigger bore mid section?

the FRP noise does intrude into the cabin and does drone on motorway journeys, but I can't comment on one of the stainless systems.

Engine rpm has a big effect on how loud the FRP is.. Unfortunately, cruising at legal speeds on the motorway tends to be quite noisy.

If you're a fan of aftermarket exhausts and inductions kits, then you'll love the FRP. If you like a silent drive with just the sounds of Radio 2, then stay clear.

FRP makes more noise with a decat pipe on, so make sure you have the cat fitted if you want some quiet (and to pass the mot)
