As the title says, i had a suspected stroke this morning, yes I am home and not in hospital, dr says because i regained my speech and the use of my arm and leg quite quickly i didnt need to be admitted, i was so scared, I am 27 and had a stroke!

I am now worried i will be stopped driving altogether, i know there are a few on here in the medical proffession (sp?) could someone please advise to what may happen, i am seeing a specialist in the next few days.

As you can tell i am feeling much better now and on medication so hopefully it wont happen again
i have nothing to say right now

Sorry to hear about what happenned to you ohmy.gif
I've been warned that a stroke is inevitable from bad diabetic control so, despite the inconveniences, I'm doing what I'm told!

I'm on a 3 year license due to being diabetic, basically my doctor has to approve my license at renewal.

The long and short of it is, if they believe you may be a danger due to your condition you will not have a license. A car can potentially do a lot of damage...

So ultimately it is your responsibility to prove you are under control of your condition.

Bloody hell! Glad you are feeling better now. A girl i worked with had a stroke and she was only 30odd at the time. She had brain scans and turned out she had the brain of a 70 yeard old. No idea how or why.

I know if you have an epileptic fit you cant drive for a full year even on medication.

I would guess it would be worth checking out this bunch, you will get expert amswers.

Good to hear you are feeling better now smile.gif, it's still best not to drive though, for all the reasons BOK states above.

Sorry to hear about your news.

It's interesting as a mate two months ago had a suspected stroke, loss of speech and no use to some of his body parts. Very scary as he is 29, PE teacher and very healthy and it came out of the blue. After some time and tests they ruled out a stroke, but worryingly they cannot diagnose what it was.

He's still not 100% but he is back behind the wheel after seeking advice from medical specialists.

Can't say much more than that, other than it’s very early days for you. Over the next few days and weeks I'm sure you will be in a better position to decide what to do.

I've got my fingers crossed for you that all is ok.

My license is reviewed every three years too, i have just had my review and my license has been issued for another 3 years, I dont want to lose it now, i am sure its just precautionary at the moment but when i spoke to the dr she said it should not be a problem to continue driving after the cause is pinpointed.

thanks for link to webpage its very helpful
i have nothing to say right now

Marie, i had a stroke and 2+ months in hospital - usually a stroke is an automatic 3 month ban from driving - so not as bad as it could be, i've just had another transplant and no driving for 6 weeks, that was bad.

I wish you a full blown recovery! It really does put things into perspective that this kind of thing can happen to anyone. I hope you recover 110% from this. Chin up and stay positive x

right bit of an update, went to stroke clinic yesterday and it has been confirmed it was def a stroke mellow.gif I am now having a number of blood tests, I am due to have 2 scans, one on my neck and one on my brain! (if they can find one) the consultant has said if the narrowing in the arteries is in my neck the next step is to speak to a surgeon, if its in my brain there is nothing they can really do apart from putting me on medication for the rest of my life to try and control it, I am on asprin and another tablet (beginning with S) the medical people will know what I am on about, i will be put on another tablet to stop my blood being so sticky, so not really sure how i feel at the moment, frustrated and angry are the most obvious words that spring to mind and it does not help that I have taken it out on my family!

To be honest i have had enough of hospitals, clinics, doctors, pills and potions, may just knock it all on the head and let whatever will be, be sad.gif

You need to deal with it how you feel is best. However, to me, family is the most important thing so I would not want to alienate them. Whatever, big hugs.
