Right ive had my 6006E about 2 months now, it seemed fine when i first got it but now its really starting to play up. I dont know if this happens with other 6006E's but it really struggles to play CD-R copies at all anymore. If you use a cdr that hasnt got a very dark surface then 9 times out of 10 it cant read it at all or does read it and then starts annoyingly skipping all the time. It might just be that all 6006E do this but i cant see it.

I bought it off ebay, but it does still have all the original stickers on it, if i take into my local ringways ford dealer. Will they replace it if i tell them its faulty?? im sure it has stickers on it that say upto year 2006.

please let me know
Thanks
dan

Where did it orginally come from? :? If you have'nt got a Ford invoice for it (proving orginal purchase date), then I can't see the dealer processing a FIS (Fitted In Service) parts warranty claim for you. sad.gif

I would stop using those CD-R discs. In my experience, most of the loading or jamming issues with the 6006E unit have involved these CD-R discs.

Not sure what exact problem yours is displaying. :? Does the unit show a error code when it can't play the disc? :?

It might be worth consulting your dealer for further advice, even if it is not a warranty issue. smile.gif

Oh.........Bugger.

I have just bought one off Ebay and awaiting its arrival.
I will give it a good ol' test when it gets here and see if i can replicate the problem.

My 6006 is usually fine with bought CD's (not tried CD-R's in it) but I have noticed that it is much more sensitive to jumping than my home CD player. If there is any imperfection on the disk, that just sounds a bit distorted on the home machine, it will jump badly or won't play at all on the 6006.

I only use CD-Rs in mine... ocasionaly get it skipping or playing up when it changes CD - normaly about once a month. Changing track or CD, or switching to radio and back again seems to sort it out. I use Memorex CDs if that makes any difference....

I used Verbatim CD-Rs (blue) without any major problems. Occasionally the laser would have trouble finding the lead-in but this would be completely at random. It seemed to be once the unit had been on for some time. All my disks are written by Apple iTunes.

Audio CD-Rs have absolutely no problems at all, except those with labels (BAD idea).

As soon as I say mine has no troubles, it starts playing up!

Turned mine on as I was going down a bumpy stretch of road, and it started skipping really badly, so I ejected the disc whilst I was sat at the lights, the unit eventualy took it bak in when it gave up waiting for me to take it and then it worked perfectly all the way back to the office:)

(and as mentioned in another htread, Bullitt is great to listen to as you wind your way through some hilly back streets when the sun is out biggrin.gif )

Thanks for the fast responses guys!

Im pretty sure mine is knackered as the cds that are playing up have no problem wat so ever in my home stereo, my pc or other cd players in my house. I used to have the 6000 head unit and that never ever played up and didnt ever struggle with a cd.

So do you think that if i go into Ford they will be able to swap it for a new one without any trouble or will i be screwed cos i dont have origianl warranty info as i bought it second hand??

QUOTE
Blue-dye cdr by datawrite/datasafe are supposed to be highly compatible (and tough - they've got a laquer top)

Aren't the blue backed CD-R's the worst quality ones though? I believe it goes

Blue
Silver
Gold

in that order. (not sure where black fits in smile.gif ) I've always used Philip's Silver ones.....80mins and very cheap laugh.gif

Never had a problem with em! It might be worth keeping in mind the fact that each CD-R(W) rom writes at different dephs on the discs and dependant on the quality of the laser on your CD player, depends how well it wil read it. Possibly, due to space restrictions on the 6006, the laser isn't as good as say your home system or the 6000.

Another possability is that the laser has got a little mucky. This would cause the CDs to skip, play junk and generally refuse to read CDs. I'd always take the CD player apart and clean it with alcohol. Maybe one of those CD cleaners might be worth trying too before you try ford?

I had the same problem. Started using Memorex CD-R's but reverted to a cheaper variety. The cheaper ones skipped, sometimes they would not read and I had to eject them and reload so that they would play correctly??????On one occasion when I was using the cheaper CD-R's, the entire CD magazine jumped off the carriage and knackered the loading mechanism. The system was then in a perpetual state of trying to cycle through the CD's.I had to disconnect the power to the CD unit coz it was driving me nuts.Asked a nice chappie at Ford who released the CD's and advised me discreetly that using CD-R's invalidates the warranty. He said the CD-R's have slightly different thicknesses thats why the CD carriage got screwed up. Also because different coatings are used on CD-R's the laser struggles to focus on the cheaper variety. He suggested that I should use originals.I think that if you avoid using the light green coated CD-R's and avoid CD-RW's completely you shouldn't have any problem.

Sorry for a late reply but i've had similar problems with my 6006.
CDR's and any other type of copied cd's are thicker than normal cd's and this is what causes them to jump, skip, jam or not work at all  .

I mentioned this to fords and if you say that you use CDR's it voids their warranty on the stereo (Silly Me!) Got to take it to a different dealers and tel them that i don't use CDR's and see if i can get a replacement!
