i was also £10 for the headlights to be re-alined

Sounds about right, similar to what would be charged at my place of work.

The who MOT'd mine did say mark your headlight beam on your garage door, this way if they do go out of alinment you can re-aline them using the marks off your garage door, not a bad idea i throught, cheer's all mrpike

That's a good idea. They lowered mine last MOT but didn't charge me (I had raised them before the previous MOT but it wasn't mentioned that time!!)

Nothing to stop the garage using the non enforceable test fee as a loss leader,
I take on average 3/4 hour to conduct a proper mot test and you get a pass or
fail depending on the mot testers manual criteria.
Stop and think how these garages are making up the deficit
Headlight alignment. I fail 7/10 fail for being too low, this never used to be the case
until adjustable headlamp aim became the norm,(set to zero on test) funny how not many get failed
for pointing left / right. I would say many do not get checked.
My puma is up for test next month and although, as an mot tester, I am entitled
to test it myself, I won't.
I know that the o/s/f caliper is binding, if the tester does not suss that, he's sacked
Any testing issues, talk to me...

interesting on the headlight failure and you are a sneaky chap.
on the testing issues, what is the score with self disabled airbags? are they mot'able? os the warning light testable? ( different car but some comments made me curious)

Nothing 'sneaky' about the headlamp aim criteria, set to zero, too high/low/right/left FAIL
Air bags are not yet a testable item...yet, just like spare wheels
