Hi all took my Kat for an MOT today, Yes it failed on N/S rear corroded brake pipe plus N/S & O/S headlight alinement. Cost me £45 for the MOT, £40 for new section of brake pipe from the flexable hose to the pressure relief valve and £5 for each headlight to be re-alined on the beam setter, what do you think fair price or not. Cheer's all mrpike rolleyes.gif

mines also had a hole in the sill which i got welded today

mines is ment to be going into the garage on monday for the brake pipe at a cost of £80 + VAT grudge paying that as my partner is a mechanic but won't do the job dry.gif says it's a pain to do so let someone else do it!!

i was also £10 for the headlights to be re-alined

but a thought your MOT was way pricey as there £20 where i am

Sounds about right, similar to what would be charged at my place of work.

The who MOT'd mine did say mark your headlight beam on your garage door, this way if they do go out of alinment you can re-aline them using the marks off your garage door, not a bad idea i throught, cheer's all mrpike

That's a good idea. They lowered mine last MOT but didn't charge me (I had raised them before the previous MOT but it wasn't mentioned that time!!)

Nothing to stop the garage using the non enforceable test fee as a loss leader,
I take on average 3/4 hour to conduct a proper mot test and you get a pass or
fail depending on the mot testers manual criteria.

Stop and think how these garages are making up the deficit dry.gif

Headlight alignment. I fail 7/10 fail for being too low, this never used to be the case
until adjustable headlamp aim became the norm,(set to zero on test) funny how not many get failed
for pointing left / right. I would say many do not get checked.

My puma is up for test next month and although, as an mot tester, I am entitled
to test it myself, I won't.

I know that the o/s/f caliper is binding, if the tester does not suss that, he's sacked wink.gif

Any testing issues, talk to me...

wise words there! nothing changes, when i started driving almost every mot on an older car needed brake pipes!!

interesting on the headlight failure and you are a sneaky chap.

on the testing issues, what is the score with self disabled airbags? are they mot'able? os the warning light testable? ( different car but some comments made me curious)

I use a garage that only does MOTs, pay more for the test but you know it ia 'fair'
searching is fruitful | I'm a sponge not a mechanic | please do try that if stuck with a Puma problem whilst waiting for a reply | For the Puma fan this read 'The Inside Story Book' is very nice to own sometimes still seen for sale

Nothing 'sneaky' about the headlamp aim criteria, set to zero, too high/low/right/left FAIL sad.gif

Air bags are not yet a testable item...yet, just like spare wheels rolleyes.gif

Good old VOSA laugh.gif laugh.gif
