Hi,

I have 1.7 on a W plate and recently under heavy acceleration what seems to be blue smoke come from the exhaust and she does seem to be using more oil than usual.

Any ideas ?

Yep...dead easy...your burning oil! sad.gif

Hopefully it will be the piston seals (oil leaks into the combustion chamber past the piston seals and mixes with the fuel and hence comes out of the exhaust) and will hopefully be cheapish to repair or...you dont wanna know what the other option is!

Either way, get yourself and the car down to a garage that you TRUST and explain your synopsis and they will advise you from there...good luck!

worry about this first - a litre of oil in 500 miles is some serious problem in itself

if you are getting blue smoke as you drive, piston rings (seals) is the most obvious cause

if you get the blue smoke when you first start up the engine worn valve guides is another cause

1 litre in 500 miles is (looks for a word one down from horrendous) sad.gif
if you take it to a garage you trust you should not need to worry what to say other than the facts of oil useage and blue smoke smile.gif

Worse case scanario is actual pistons themselves....althought i am pretty sure it wont be.

Also when was the last time you had an oil and filter change? If you have crap oil in and you keep topping up that wont correct your problem butmearly add to the headache...ill put money down its seals...then get yorself a oil change!

Good luck! happy.gif

Check your air filter is in good condition (i.e. not blocked with cr4p), also check your crankcase breater tube isn't blocked.

Does it smoke on acceleration itself or only on the overrun? Smoke on the overun only is usually worn valve seats only.

Thanks for all the advice, its def jusr when you floor it from about 4k revs onwards, been using magnatec lately, but air filter does need changing as i found a stone that had managed to find its way past the filter and into the valve bit after it
