Hi All,

Im involved this year in running a Rally Puma Super 1600 which is based on the Ford Racing Puma. We are entering in the Britsh Rally championship this year, and are seriousily struggling for any information on these pumas. I have searched the internet high and low.

The basic issues we have a the moment are :-

Original suspension setting (Castor, Camber, etc...) for both Gravel and Tarmac
Fuse Box layout (Hopefully the same as the road car)

but any info or links to websites would be a huge help. Contact names or numbers on anyone specialising in these cars or anyone that use to run them?? I know the car was built by Ford Motor Company at boreham wood.

Does anyone have or know where I can get a copy of the technical manual of this car.

Thanks for any help you can give
Rob

welcome biggrin.gif
the FRP was inspired by the S1600
searching is fruitful | I'm a sponge not a mechanic | please do try that if stuck with a Puma problem whilst waiting for a reply | For the Puma fan this read 'The Inside Story Book' is very nice to own sometimes still seen for sale

FWIW there is very little in common between a S1600 puma and an FRP, nearly everything is different or modified smile.gif

As stated, Birkbeck have pretty much all the knowledge on the S1600's and might be willing to help you out, failing that try searching the Irish motorsport websites for S1600 Puma's, theres quite a few doing the West Cork Rally this weekend smile.gif

for the basic suspension settings etc you need the S1600 kit manual which has example gravel and tarmac settings in it IIRC. fuse box is largely unmodified except for removal of redundant airconditioning relays meaning the smaller engine bay (or Battery Junction Box) fits in the space now roll cage intrudes into engine bay.

there are slight modifications on the wiper circuit anf also the impact fuel cutoff has been deleted.

How your loom varies from standard depends on if it is a original ford puma loom with unneeded circuits removed, or if it is a dedicated ford motorsport loom. the two were different with mainly ford works cars using the motorsport loom and only a few of the high end private cars using it as an option.

I have copies of both the vk1400 and S1600 build guides but i dont have ready access to them until i get a chance to scoot back up to scotland sometime in the next few months.

Thanks guys, the driver spoke to Alan of Puma build, and the response was positive, and very helpful.

I will spend today looking at some of the irish rally sites, but the big question is how do I get my hands on the "Kit Manual" and "Build Manual" that Warren mentioned. (Thanks for the Info Warren).

Unfortunately we need the settings ASAP so does anybody know someone that has either manual we can copy, buy, etc.... ???

We will keep you posted with how we do... Thanks for all the info !

Rob

The car is being driven by Stefan Davis (http://www.stefandavis.com/) and we are going to have a crack at the BRC for the first time this year.

He should go really well if we can get the car to handle right.

Im just one of the service crew giving Stef a hand. Not long to go before the first round so its all hands to the deck.

I will keep you posted on how well we do.
