A traders guide: the law relating to the supply of goods and services

Note that the Act that compels manufacturers to supply spare parts for motor cars for 10 years from the date of sale is the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982.

yep as pg says it's 10years from sale..... seeing as mine is Dec 2000 should be good (theoretically) for another 3 years.... if i take this all the way i may even push for a new steering wheel..... that will mean they would have to get a new batch of wheels made up in Alchemy and then send off for re-trimming... mm could be an interesting price to the end user... laugh.gif

The links open fine for me.....

so the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982 'compels' (whatever that means) manufacturers to supply spare parts for motor cars for 10 years from the date of sale ie at least Jan 2011 given an invoice date of Jan 2001

based on my own experiences i have been unable to acquire frp front calipers, rh driveshafts or interior parts

iirc there are also no 1.7 engines available

a list that i know of that are all gone and no to be remade.

1) inlet manifolds
2) exhaust manifolds
3) centre sections
4) back boxes
5) steering wheels
6) all interior panels
7) dash board
8) front seats
9) rear seats
10) rh driveshafts
11) front brake calipers
12) engines.
13) fuel cap covers. - think i remember someone couldnt get one.
14) ford racing badges.

things that are down to a minimum such as

1)body panels, alan told me there are less than double figures of each. alot less.
2)wheels.
3) brake disks.

im sure the people in the know, know alot more parts too that are nearly gone.

I'm sure Ford find some opt out of their obligations, Due the FRP's being a "limited edition special"

Tickford actually built the cars, and they don't exist as such anymore, I believe? mellow.gif

If they were to produce parts required on a limited run, I can imagine what the prices would be! ohmy.gif

Think of a number double it, add a bit more on as they really want it and have agreed to buy etc etc, Plus Vat!

Maybe I'm just being cynical tongue.gif

I have just spent out £600 on an exhaust and service kit for the calipers.

I skimmed the disks but they are below the lower width limit so really need replacing.
£410 for Red Dot disks and pads.
Now I reckon after I went playing with a Mazda RX8 the other day, my clutch is on its way out !
About £300 at Alan's.

Glad I don't have a mortgage rolleyes.gif

Drive shafts can be made, they are only longer 1.7 puma ones, aren't they?
Panels can be straightened, its only the wings and bumpers.

yep they can be straightened but you find a person that is good at beating out the front arches as they are aluminium and also you cant knock out dents in the rear quarters as the original puma wing is still in place underneath as the frp one is just bonded on top so you cannot get to it to bang dents out.

ive spent 5k getting mine how it is now so i know what you mean with the money but that was when parts were available within a year nothing will be left its bloody stupid and peopl wonder why we get wound up when we see other pumas and fiestas with all our parts wink.gif because of this thats happening now, no one believed it when we said it 2 years ago it was apparently all scare tactics.

£5 K wow.
It is in Very Good condition.
I see you can but steel wings for a FRP. £700 odd each ohmy.gif

I paid about £16 each for the wings on my Mk3 XR3i about 5 years ago when I replaced both and £40 odd for the front valance / slam panel.

Only trouble with Alloy, it stretches.
The rear wings, you would use either a suction pad or I have drilled holes before, pulled with screws, then re-miged the holes up on in unaccessible panels.

I only do all the car repairs as a hobby.
Come from doing motorsport and having to build / repair the cars unsure.gif
Having a bit of a run on Motorbikes at the moment, got to get rid of some projects on Ebay biggrin.gif

I'm a sparky by trade.

bumpers are even dearer wink.gif

but as i say there is less than 10 of each now left and in some cases only a couple which includes bumpers and wings.

i know alan at Pumabuild has moulds for the front and rear bumpers and ive seen them made so they should not be a problem but as far as i know no one has moulds for the wings only pumaspeed which i think is a slightly different kit and obviously not made in the same materials i.e, steel or aluminium. so doubt the lining up of them is as good.

good of ford to chuck away the original moulds so no more could ever be made, sensible that one.

i'm still curious as to what the word 'compel' means?

i might drop these guys a quick email for some free consumer advice - used them before...

we won't find out unless we ask wink.gif

iirc they did a limited run of steering wheels a couple of years ago - the price hadn't changed...

Good luck gang but I reckon there'll be some way out of it for Ford. Either limited run means they don't need to supply the parts or they need to provide a certain percentage or they only need to provide parts that work at a basic level.

I have no paper work, I was not the first owner. Also the car was purchased earlier, that was just delivery date and I just happen to know mine did not leave Tickfords till January.

'I am sure they will monitor the rate of demand for Ford Racing Puma parts closely and replenish stocks accordingly'

obviously NOT
