Here is my thread for the work that i am doing on #406, I bought the car on october the 10th from john in southampton for cash on the first viewing after a test drive.

Previously to this i owned a ford fiesta MK5 51 plate that received an awful lot of attention and was well looked after, was pretty much my first car (due to writing my fiesta MK4 off a month after passing my test! ouch) I owned it for four years and after i began to get bored with it i started saving up for a new car - either a cheap but almightily good Peugeot 306 GTI 6, a ST 170 or a Racing Puma. The 306 went out the window quickly as it is so hard to find a decent low mileage one, but I did have problems deciding between other two. Finally i decided that I'd get a racing puma whilst I'm young, without a mortgage and don't have to drive to work and the plan is to get a ST170 for next car.

I've not regretted this decision in the slightest, ever since I set eyes on the Racing Puma at the British motor show I wanted one even though I was ten.. ish! it has always been my realistic dream car and it's not disappointed me. I was a little worried about the supposed running costs... but if anyone is thinking about getting one that is a handy mechanic then i wouldn't worry about the running costs - working on these cars isn't hard! Mine hasn't cost me an awful lot, but it really is up to par now.

Thanks mate! i was well releived to find them in that condition! good work!

Yea it was a mega tough choice between the two... my heart said racing puma but the head said ST170 for its practicality. It should be a great next car unless somthing else comes about. worth mentioning how good the 306 gti 6 is too... my friend has one it really does give the FRP a run for its money (but now have new bushes on the back and F1's up front! ). you can pick them up for 1500-2500 now! madness....

My old car!! I miss it so much, I still have pictures of it as my wallpaper on my phone and laptop.

Sorry about the niggles you've had with it.

This car has come a long way in the last 2 years. You should have seen it when I bought it from a guy in Kent. It had an evo spoiler, blue mud flaps, cheap halfords mesh in the bumper grills, the steering wheel was ruined, there was loads of chrome junk under the bonnet, a dodgy tape player, a rediculous powerflow exhaust with a humungous tail pipe, a chrome ariel the list goes on lol.

Anyway glad you're enjoying it, nice to see it being looked after properly. Wish I had the time and space to finish all the bits you've done to it.
Thanks, Jon

That looks the job for mine next year :) as Chris commented, what a difference.
What is your mileage please?
searching is fruitful | I'm a sponge not a mechanic | please do try that if stuck with a Puma problem whilst waiting for a reply | For the Puma fan this read 'The Inside Story Book' is very nice to own sometimes still seen for sale

Its on 88,000 now...

i saw another post on here where someone said that theirs has compressed by about 10mm and i didn't beleive it! but i thought i'd change them anyway...

was suprised to see the difference, and the feel of the car is alot better and alot less crashy, now there is just a nice 'thud' over bumps.

the fronts are easy to do but the back ones are a pain as you have to take half the boot out to get to the bolt on top of the struts!

i am certain the knocking from the back end going over bigger bumps was because of that 10mm ish gap between the strut housing and rubber washer that stops the strut from dropping out... so i have cut out a inch thick peice of foam the same size as the rubber washer and put it inbetween. and now absolute silence when i go over larger bumps.... its bliss!

I knew some one would ask!!

Was in a rush to get the car back together and forgot the camera so didn't have the time,

But i have just gone outside and taken some especially...

It certianly isn't the prettiest job... but it is functional. i saw a thread on a guy that made the sleeve on the top washer shorter so the gap was no longer present but i didn't fancy doing that as i thought i must be like that for a reason... maybe to allow some movement? so i thought this is the best way around it...
