The Ford Puma is 1.5 DIN, most other CD/stereo players are only 1 Din

Or does the OP mean they want to use a Ford Headunit as a regular CD player outside of the car (in his front room etc.)?

Not sure how you would approach that. I'm guessing:
You'd need 12v (not 240v from the mains).
You'd probably also need to use car speakers, as you may have trouble running regular hifi speakers from a tiny headunit amp.
You'd need to fabricate speaker boxes.

By all accounts it probably isn't worth it...

Yeah, I'm guessing he wants a regular car stereo instead of the factory unit.

Short answer: a 2DIN unit won't fit, and you need a special plastic bit to house a standard 1DIN unit. You can get them from eBay easily enough. There are ones which just cover the rest of the hole, but I've got one that gives you a little parcel shelf under the stereo itself. Trivial to get installed at any car stereo shop.
