Really need to get away from this rubbish English weather.
We're going to Turkey in August (a place called Olu Deniz.) Anyone ever been?? It'd be nice to have some info on the place thats not from the travel agency and Tripadvisor

thanks!

Looks like Jessie may be going to reply for you wink.gif

Been there for a day in early 2000's. Was ok ish.

Side earlier this year, and blimey, Turkey is now expensive. Was shocked how much we spent on basics like food and drink.

Been to Olu Deniz twice.

Stayed at the Asena Beach both times, good hotel.

Captain Hook's resaurant is good, as is Joseph's opposite (Joseph (Yusef) himself is usually in attendance) here the more times you return the more they like to treat you and give you drinks on the house (after my 3rd visit on my second trip I don't really remember getting back to the room having spent very little!!). However the last trip was 4 years ago so not sure what has changed since then.

If you are staying for two weeks an overnight trip to Pamukalle and Ephasus is a good idea.

Don't go with the package tour operator trips - they cost more and put you on great big busses and heard you round like sheep. On the main street towards the beach (there is a huge lump of ruined building in the middle of the street) a few doors down from Joseph's there was a branch of Metrolya Travel, run by a lunatic (in a nice way) called Ramos. You get small groups and usually more flexable tours with local guides who know their stuff.

Don't forget when you arrive in Turkey you need to buy a tourist visa. Stick a £10 note into each passport and hand them over to the cashier to make the process smoother.

We were back in Turkey in May but went to Side this time, still love the country. We were going to go back again in September but looks like we'll go to Europe instead now.

Why not fly; take the Smart in your hand luggage?

It's Coral's birthday on the friday, so we're having a family meal somewhere near Bradford on Avon then staying the night on the canal, before coming down to Cornwall. Plus, I'll probably still be working in Kent on the thursday, so I'll drive back to Cumbria from there before coming back down south.

I'm really looking forward to it, and the driving is just what you need to do. Paying for the petrol will be more painful!
