8) Just read the article again in Fast ford, the company bogg motorsports say they have fitted the bike carbs to all sorts of Fords including cvh's, zetecs and duratec and they dont mention having to have a new ecu for the ignition.
They quote the drive in drive out price of a conversion set up on the roling road as Å“587.
They also say a typical gain is 30bhp, thats got to be the cheapest tuning at the moment. cool2.gif

Surely carbs don't need an ECU as you'd be losing the fuel injection - hence carbs not throttle bodies ja_stupid.gif
That said, I know sweet FA about fitting carbs to an injection engine, so im probably wrong LOL Would it be to run the other systems such as VCT?

You need the ECU to control the ignition as well as the fueling on all ZETECs. I have read that article and they are quoting the most favourable figures from different engine to make their products look good. ie:

On a ZETEC you could easily gain about 30% more power buy converting to carbs, but you would need a new ECU (this is because the ZETEC inlet is really badly designed).
For a CVH you would gain a bit, but would not need an ECU (as a distributer controls the igntion) and so on.

So they quote the price from the cheapest conversion, ie CVH, but give the % power from the engine that responds to the carbs the best, the ZETEC.

You will not see a 30% gain in power doing this to a Puma and you will need an aftermarket ECU. You will then get problems with the PATS and will probably need to bin it. If you are paying for ECU for ignition you may as well pay Å“150 more for a 3d one and use motorbike throttle bodies. Besides which, a Puma would not pass they MOT running carbs owning to the emissions.

I am going to be putting motorbike throttle bodeis on to a ZETEC E powered mk 1 Escort and have done a lot of research into this, trust me.

10.gif Wardy , thanks for your very informed reply, let us know how the motorbike throttle bodies goes, I am currently saving for the engine mods whilst doing general items like wheels, trim, etc etc.
I would be interested if the cost is reasonable, but i have seen people talking Å“2-3000 for throttle bodies which is just plain stupid IMHO.
