Would I need to put spacers on front and back or just the front?

Cheers.

Just the front and use axle spacers at the back.

Beware though that a 5mm spacer will probably entirely cover your spigot, which means the wheel is supported only by the studs.

Where would I get axle spacers from? Apparently there are none left at ford? eBay only has 20.5mm ones?

The ones to go on the front kwikfit said I could get them from halfords? Would they be any good?

Also would my current locking wheel nuts still fit?

Thank you

Ford have plenty of the rear axle spacers, you want the ones for a Ka (12.5mm) or StreetKa (20.5mm).

The problem with the front spacers is that you loose 5mm of thread, and if you need longer nuts then you need to split the hub and replace the wheel bearings.

I spend a fortune getting some ET40 wheels refurbished and tried to get the ET40 wheels to work, even spending around £170+fitting on Eibach hubcentric spacers, wheel bearings, longer studs, and it isn't worth it. You are better off just getting some wheels that are the right size.

Right so the 20.5mm ones will be okay. If my studs on the front fit then brilliant If not then I need new bearings = a lot of money.

I looked for ages to find the 16" cossie style wheels ET35 with no luck, if you know of any for sale I will happily sell these and buy them.

Apologies for dodgy writing I'm using my iPod touch!

erm, when we talk about numbers like that it's the offset of the alloys.

You know what, google it, I'm a girl and don't fully understand it myself! All I know is it keeping me from having nice alloys right now! Lol

The ‘Offset’ of a wheel measures the distance between the wheel centreline and the wheel mounting face and is measured in millimetres.

It is extremely important that wheels of the correct offset are used in order to maintain the correct track of the vehicle

The Haynes Fiesta Manual (3397) can answer a lot of your questions.

i think the standard puma wheels are ok with 5mm spacers, the mondeo ones arent because the inside edge of the spiggot on the wheel is chamfered

I did this got some et 40 mondeo wheels got them refurbed 4 new tyres :) waste of time it scares me to death in the wet it just slides everywere even at low speeds the 5mm spacer will not let the spigot contact the wheel and the only way I saw to fix this was to chop and extend the hub expensive. I found a set of 35 mm offset ones on ebay picking them up this weekend, hello handling yeahh boy

you can get hubcentric 15mm spacers now that dont require the hubs to be split, they bolt straight on.

think im going to get some at some point and combine them with 20mm axle spacers on the rear

I tried the previous Eibach's, that required longer studs, giving ET25 - it was an improvement on ET40, but ET35 is a lot better.

I think at the rear you could have probs Steve - I had 20.5's with drums without a prob, but when I went to discs there was noticable rubbing, so I had to drop down to 12.5's. I think the discs add 14mm? so 15mm spacers could give you the same probs.

No, but the 15mm spacers would have the same effect, hence you would probably get away with them with a 12.5mm axle spacer, but not with a 20.5mm axle spacer.

20.5mm + rear disc (14mm?) = rubbing.
12.5mm + rear disc (14mm?) = ok
20.5mm + 15mm spacer = rubbing
12.5mm + 15mm spacer = ok

ahh sorry i was planning on running a 20mm rear axle spacer with no spacer, and on the front just the 15mm spacer if that makes sense

Yes, sorry but I wouldn't bother with the front spacer, that gives you the equiv of ET20, and is AWFUL!

I went from ET40 + spacer to ET35, and the guys at the garage left the spacers on - that was an awful drive home, the steering just felt wierd. It wasn't down to alignment or anything, as it was fine once the spacers were removed.

It looked great, but even baring in mind that I already had the longer studs fitted, I never put the spacers back, the drive was just really bad.

was it comparable to et40 wheels or did it differ? i imagine tram lining was quite bad

It was a LOT worse.

In order of preference; ET35, ET25, ET40, ET20.

ET40 doesn't feel THAT bad, but is disappointing, ET25 was better. ET20 felt like something was wrong!

It may have been partly the tramlining, I drove along the M180 & M62, both of which do have some ruts, but even excluding those roads, it was really nasty.
