Hello all,

Ford Puma 16V 1.7 Black 2001 (Y) 65000miles (not that it matters much now!). MOTed in March 2008.

Cambelt went on my Puma a few weeks ago. The garage says that I need a full engine rebuild and have quoted me "best part of £3000".

According to WhatCars valuation, I could get £3100 p/x when it was fully working. I've just been to a garage and they offered me £450 as it is a non-runner (as if I didn't know that!). I am loathe to sell my car for that pawltry amount. I would like to think that it is still worth around £1000. Am I kidding myself?!

If anyone can let me know how much the car is worth that would be great.

Thanks!

you could pick up a second hand engine for around £600.
you will proberly get more if you break the car than sell it as a oner

I know next to nothing about cars (I just drive and fill up with petrol basically!), so breaking it is not really an option for me.

I know that a good route for me to take is to get a secondhand engine and then get it fitted but as this is also a technical kinda thing, I'd rather just go down the road of selling it whole or part exchange at a garage.

I just want to know if £500ish is worth doing it for...

I would find someone to fit a second hand engine for you - shouldn't cost more than £1000 and only take a day or so.

Hi

Don't let your car go for pennies! Get in touch with PumaSpeed and get a qoute from them. I think they fit a second hand engine for about £1500. It will be better than buying another car and you will still own a Puma! Even if you don't like the idea of having a car witha secondhand engine for whatever reason, think about it this way: £500 is the value of the car now + £1500 to fit a secondhand engine= £2000 the cost of the car which you will be able, according to what you qouted, to part exchange it for the value of £3000! Result? £1000 profit compared to just letting it go for£500.

Good luck
I love it when my Millie purrrrrrs!!
