Hey Everyone! It's been a few years (7 I think.. but don't hold me to that).
Our little Puma has been with us since 2008... it was my wife's daily driver for 6 years before a temporary secondment and a company car took Baggy (A panther black could only be called Bagheera!) off the road. This was initially meant to be for six months, but 2 years later and it was still there. As I always needed a reliable mile muncher, it was never suitable for me, but a recent job change and an office that's only a few miles away means I was on the hunt for a fun car.
My old oil burner had failed its MOT spectacularly, and in my mind the Puma was in a pretty ropey state. I was looking at various coupes, thinking I'd finally decided on a BMW 330, when a need to remove the cover and move the Puma made me re-evaluate what I was looking at. It looked great, and all the memories of driving it came flooding back. Why spend a few thousand on something else, when I can spend half that on our favourite car we've ever owned.
So, one quite rusty drivers side rear wheel arch, one bubbling passengers side rear wheel arch, a broken drivers window motor (it went down one day and didn't go back up), a flat battery and 4 soft tyres. Thankfully, I'd left it on gear with the handbrake off, so the wheels turn.
I'll be starting a project thread to cover the state it's in now, and the work done to it. The majority of the mechanical work will be done by others, as time is usually my biggest issue, but some things I'll do myself.
The current plan is:MOT and a really good major service. The Cambelt is nearly due, so I'll get that done along with an HCV (I don't trust one that's been sat having had one go before).Rear wheel arches.Steering wheel. (The dreaded melted PVC/Faux Leather looks horrible now...)Seats. These were a bit worn and well used. I was thinking about reupholstering them, or possibly looking out for an interior from a black or Milly to class it up a little.
Then it'll be replacing anything else tired; Bushes, Shocks, belts etc.
From that point on, I'm hoping to get a bit more power out of it, so once I've saved up, it might be off to Pumaspeed for some bits :)

Yey sounds like a plan
Cambelt is every 5 years, 80k miles which ever occurs first for the 1.7
searching is fruitful | I'm a sponge not a mechanic | please do try that if stuck with a Puma problem whilst waiting for a reply | For the Puma fan this read 'The Inside Story Book' is very nice to own sometimes still seen for sale
